ATTN: Female Sneaker Lovers, This Podcast Is For You
Reebok just launched a new podcast aptly called ‘Flipping The Game,’ that deals with all-things female within the sneaker biz. In light of current happenings within the sneaker industry, this topic feels quite timely, if not overdue. This is a first-ever podcast to explore the relationship between females and the sneaker game (hard to believe, right?!).
Catwalk trend alert: Printed silk
After show-hopping, and a team debrief, the WGSN Menswear editors call out the most exciting and directional emerging trends – and, for the first time, we’re sharing our favourites here. Use silk for flowing shirtings and more… Cool, comfortable and with beautiful fluidity, silk makes for elegant and sophisticated looks.
Catwalk trend alert: Dystopia
Visions of a ‘future imperfect’ feature at London shows, with subcultural inspirations and a hint of malevolence. Sharp tailoring pairs with sardonic slogan ideas and bold details hint at S&M or survivalism. A graphic, controlled palette of mostly monochrome tones and pops of primary brights emerges. Matte and sheen play adds to the drama.
A Catwalk Minute: Daniel w. Fletcher’s take on tailoring at LFWM
London Fashion Week Men’s has returned to the British capital with full force – and, as ever, the eyes of the WGSN editors are firmly focused on the roster of emerging talent, of which London always bears plenty of low-hanging fruit. Day one, show one set the precedent for a Men’s fashion week that offers commercial, wearable pieces for the modern menswear consumer – all whilst staying true to design aesthetics. Daniel w.
Graduate Fashion Week 2018: The ones to watch
Located in East London’s trendy Truman Brewery, university graduates have been busy showcasing their final collections for Graduate Fashion Week. Students from all over the UK attend this key event, networking with the fashion industries professionals. From footwear and accessories, through to textiles and materials, graduates offered an eclectic mix of innovation and creative flair. Participating as a judge for the Clarks Footwear Award, I was able to observe this first-hand.
Five designers to know from the Central Saint Martins AW18 show
The Central Saint Martins MA course is undoubtedly the most prolific for producing for emerging fashion talent in the UK. With a star-studded alumni from McQueen to more recently, Richard Quinn – who, this week, was awarded the inaugural Queen Elizabeth II Award for British Design. Each season our Catwalk Team’s Anna Ross is at the show- on the lookout for the best of their emerging talent.
How Fresh Are Your Kicks?
Active brands continue to challenge what we wear and how we wear it. Sneakers are at the forefront, making an impact on the formal and casual footwear markets. But increasingly we are seeing luxury services influencing the sport world when it comes to cost, material, colour, design and care. As sneaker trends continue to dominate both men’s and women’s footwear markets, we see sneaker cleaning products increase dramatically.
Field Day Festival 2017: 5 Things Not to Miss
The UK festival season is officially in full swing and here at WGSN we are kicking things off with a visit to East London’s favourite cutting-edge event: Field Day Festival 2017. Expect an influx of emerging DJs, alternative music veterans and a serious dose of finger-on-the-pulse fashion, as our lucky editors Joanne Thomas and Emily Cater head to the event this Saturday 3rd June to report on all things street style related.
ChromaYoga co-founder Nina Ryner on the benefits of yoga and colour therapy
In my role as senior editor of the Active team it can feel like a day doesn’t go by without coming across yet another new yoga class. And so, it takes some serious style and substance to stand out and catch our eye, happily ChromaYoga has both in spades. ChromaYoga successfully combines the ancient practices of colour therapy and yoga in a modern, tech-savvy studio based in Shoreditch, London.

Nike Air VaporMax: Why air bubbles are having a sneaker moment!
Within the footwear industry Nike is best known for its innovation and technology directions. With each new footwear release it retains its title as one of the most influential sneaker players around the world. Case in point: the new Nike Air VaporMax sneaker, which highlights the return of air bubble soles. Historically air soles were pumped with as much air as possible but the newest Nike creation uses a reduced amount.

High-Tech Sneakers: The Top 5 Fitness Innovators
One glance at your Apple Watch or the new smartphone you were gifted over the holidays proves that technology continues to fully integrate itself into our everyday lives. Apps evolve, tracking and monitoring our health and fitness. Smartphone and watch devices connect to the latest sneakers, improving the fit and comfort for the wearer’s needs.
The accessories brand that’s a huge hit with Gen Z consumers
The world of accessories has never been more in demand. Accessories appeal because of their price point, whether it be a phone case or a lipstick emoji sticker, that little purchase upgrades your bag or phone without the need to make a big investment purchase. Also, as consumers we literally have so much stuff, that now we’re looking for innovative ways to differentiate our stuff from other peoples.
This New York bespoke jewellery line specialises in rap lyrics
Customisation and bespoke are the current buzzwords in fashion and retail at the moment, as consumers are seeking out the brands that offer more. That could be a shirt with a consumers favourite (but slightly niche) 90s character on, denim clothing with personalised doodles, emoji pins, or alphabetised iPhone stickers that spell out consumers names; clothing and accessories are focused on creative expression and personalisation more than ever before.
A Caribbean boutique gem
At WGSN, we don’t do the same old, same old. We’ve always got our eye on the new and the next, especially when it comes to travel. It’s no surprise then that we fell for Spice Island, Grenada, which unlike other more popular, tourist-heavy Caribbean islands, feels much more raw and authentic, packed with interior design inspiration (and complete with heavenly beaches). Local Fruit. Local Flavour.
How to rock your bucket hat this festival season
On a street style trip to Field Day Festival, in East London’s Victoria Park, the bucket hat was a popular choice for many guys. The rain persisted at the two day event which made the hat an ideal headwear accessory. The classic shapes remain but styling varied from skater boy to city explorer to nautical sailor. Captured throughout the latest men’s S/S 17 London catwalks too, the bucket hat offers a practical yet playful silhouette for the summer.
Ricardo Vannetti, Pitti Immagine
While the S/S 17 schedule of trade shows from Italian organisers Pitti Immagine gets under way, kicking off this week in Florence with menswear must-attend, Pitti Uomo, alongside the normal trade show schedule is a fresh initiative, which provides further investment in the industry – the new Pitti Tutorship.
5 reasons Pinterest matters for your business
As part of the speaker line up we heard from Pinterest’s president, Tim Kendall. He explained how the visual, digital discovery tool is fast becoming the world’s catalog of ideas, and what this means for retail business that want to attract new customers.
Crowdfunding model that brings your fashion designs to life
The fashion industry is an ever-changing environment. With new designers entering the market every day and the advance of social media, it can be hard to stand out against the competition, plus more importantly not every designer has the resources at hand to bring their own brand to life. Enter new digital platform AwaytoMars, the user-created fashion brand, founded by a Brazilian entrepreneur Alfredo Orobio, in 2015. The idea?
The most eclectic denim street style looks
MADE LA made its debut in Los Angeles this past weekend bringing together music, art, culture and fashion. In addition to Moschino unveiling its resort 2017 collections, performers such as Tyler the Creator hit the main stage, and streetwear label Hood By Air (who always dazzle and surprise on the catwalk) showed off their “HALLWAYS” Collection Presentation. It was an exciting event not just because of the great street style but because of the huge fashion industry endorsement.
Hotel Emma, Texas, USA
Huge hotels really aren’t my thing. I prefer teeny tiny, with fewer rooms than I can count on two hands, but just enough quirky rooms (no cookie-cutter interiors, please) that means each time I visit it feels like a different destination. Hotel Emma might be about to change all that. This larger-than-life hotel, in newly hip San Antonio, has 146 rooms, a library, pool, brewery, and, delightfully, a history as many years long as its square footage.
Fashion-forward Father's Day gifts your dad will actually want
It’s that time of the year where you start running around like a crazy hurricane-force wind trying to find that one perfect present that’s going to remind your dad what a great child you are (and what a great job he has done). So, if you’ve already run out of ideas and need a little inspiration, here are my top picks for the occasion.
3 takeaways from Simon Collins' Fashion-Culture-Design event
This is not a conference, it’s a movement- said Simon Collins, the former Dean of the School of Fashion at Parsons School of Design and founder of the Fashion Culture Design (FCD) unconference. Based on the end-of-day response from attendees (cell-phones ablaze with social media updates from the days events), the movement is beginning.
Pre-Summer 17 Catwalk Alert: Socks & Sandals
Each season, in addition to our in-depth catwalk reviews at WGSN, we spotlight the early trends that are coming through. Right now we’re in the middle of Pre-Summer 2017 and key themes are already emerging from the shows. Spotted at Carven, Versace, Rochas and Missoni; it was all about socks teamed with sandals. A flurry of socks and sandals styling within Pre-Summer 17 collections nods to the increasingly important transseasonal mood.
Comfort footwear brands to dance around in this summer
This season comfort footwear brands are taking a new angle with their campaign imagery. Brands have started to introduce the world of dance into the latest campaigns elevating comfort seasonal collections. Cole Haan and Geox in particular utilise the expressive movements to showcase each designs key feature. Classic and contemporary dancers flex, bend and rotate across the dance floor pushing footwear constructions to their limits.
WGSN's International Womens Day Playlist
March 8th is an incredibly important day for women across the globe, it’s a chance to have the spotlight on them to celebrate how far women have come and the battles they still have to fight. At WGSN we are in the business of fashion and retail, an industry where women are well represented but issues around the lack of equal pay and boardroom access are prevalent.
