Dan Duquette

In 1994, he became the General Manager of the Boston Red Sox. He spent eight years at the helm of his hometown team. As the Red Sox GM, Duquette made several notable moves, including drafting Nomar Garciaparra in 1994 and trading for Pedro Martínez in 1997. He is largely considered to have laid the groundwork for the 2004 Red Sox World Series-winning team by signing and drafting players like Tim Wakefield, Johnny Damon, Jason Varitek, Manny Ramirez, Derek Lowe, and Kevin Youkilis.

His home province of British Columbia is sure proud of him, and so are baseball fans all across Canada. To celebrate Maple Ridge, B.C., native Larry Walker becoming the first Canadian position player to be elected to the National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, we will be running a series of tribute articles from many who have known and been inspired by him - including former teammates, managers, coaches and even his dad - leading up to the September 8 ceremony.

BALTIMORE — The Baltimore Orioles have fired executive vice-president of baseball operations Dan Duquette, who launched a belated rebuilding effort in July after the team that failed miserably from the start. The announcement came Wednesday night, hours after manager Buck Showalter was told by the club he would not return in 2019. Baltimore went 47-115, the worst record in Orioles' history. Both Duquette and Showalter had contracts that expired at the end of this season.
