Henrietta pursuing $10 million in grants for projects, including Dome Arena revitalization

HENRIETTA, N.Y. (WROC) — The town of Henrietta is pursuing a slate of grants for several projects, in total worth $10 million. Town supervisor Steve Schultz says these grants are still in progress, and are designed not to cost any taxpayer money if approved, though work would not commence unless the grants are awarded. The big ticket item is the proposed revitalization of the Dome Arena. Henrietta is in talks with Rochester Cornerstone Group to buy the Dome and the surrounding parcels.

Despite possible zoning bind, developer applies for tax incentives for Barn Bazaar

PITTSFORD, N.Y. (WROC) — A local developer, Daniele Family Companies, is applying for about a $4.5 million PILOT (payment in lieu of taxes) agreement through COMIDA (Monroe County’s development arm), to turn Barn Bazaar into 175 housing units. The buildings are a former business and retail center at the corner of Jefferson and Clover in the town of Pittsford. The area is decaying after about a decade of vacancy.

Spirit Airlines announces bankruptcy

WASHINGTON (NEXSTAR) – Spirit Airlines announced it would file for bankruptcy protection on Monday, marking the first major airline in the U.S. to do so in more than a decade. When asked how this would impact operations here in Rochester, Airport director Andy Moore said Spirit only takes 4-5% of its total passengers. “We’ve got two daily departures, one to Fort Lauderdale, one to Orlando, and we’re not anticipating any impact of those as of today,” Moore said Monday.
