Dan Sullivan covers crime and public safety in Hillsborough County, Florida, for the Tampa Bay Times. Prior to joining the Times in 2010, he worked as a reporter for The Villages Daily Sun (The Villages, Fla.) and The Daily News-Transcript (Norwood, Mass.). He is a 2006 graduate of the University of Tampa, where he earned a degree in writing with a focus in journalism.

What was your first job as a journalist?

My first paying job was for a paper called The Villages Daily Sun in central Florida. My first gig was with my college newspaper.

Who's your favorite fictional journalist?

I honestly can't think of one. My favorite journalists are all real people.

What tools and software do you use to do your job?

Most of my work involves a notebook, a pen, a car, and a good pair of shoes. I write stories in a program called DTI.
