Former KTEC teacher pleads guilty to 15 counts of disorderly conduct
A former Kenosha Unified School District teacher who was accused of inappropriately communicating with a student pleaded guilty to 15 misdemeanor counts of disorderly conduct in Kenosha County Circuit Court on April 4. Christian J. Enwright, 29, originally was charged with 22 misdemeanor counts of disorderly conduct on May 10, 2024. Each of the charges is punishable by a fine of up to $1,000, 90 days in jail or both.

Kenosha Mayor David Bogdala has unveiled his 2025 budget and capital improvement plan. Bogdala presented his first budget as mayor during Monday's City Council meeting. The city's budget consists of two separate documents, the annual budget and five-year capital improvement plan. Budget meetings in various committees will take place in the coming weeks. Final approval by the City Council is expected next month.
Habitat for Humanity of Kenosha to dedicate two more homes
Habitat for Humanity of Kenosha has announced the upcoming dedication of two more homes. The homes being dedicated in the coming days on 35th Avenue will mark the 20th and 21st homes the local nonprofit has built for the community. A home dedication ceremony will be held for Amanda Marin and her family on Oct. 25 at their new home in the 4700 block of 35th Avenue. The following week, a ceremony will be held on Oct. 29 for another woman and her family in the same neighborhood.
Kenosha Police's 'Boo with the Badge' event draws hundreds of kids
The inaugural "Boo with the Badge" Halloween celebration drew hundreds of children to the Kenosha Safety Center on Saturday afternoon. The free event, held at 5716 14th Ave., allowed area residents to meet with Kenosha Police Department officers and celebrate the season with a free trunk-or-treat, a haunted house and bus, plus free pumpkins and plenty of candy and treats. "This is well beyond what we expected," KPD Officer Friendly Tyler Cochran said.

A Kenosha man has been charged with possession of child pornography. Manuel Ruiz-Gomez, 27, was charged Monday in Kenosha County Circuit Court with two counts of possession of child pornography, a Class D felony. Plans have been approved to use multiple city parks for the community's Lightin' Up celebration and Christmas tree lighting next month. The Parks Commission voted Monday to approve the use of Veteran's Memorial Park, 5220 Sixth Ave.; Navy Park, 5201 Sixth Ave.; and Friendship Park, 5834 Sixth Ave. for the festivities scheduled for Nov. 29.

Fall Into Fun Fest draws families to Kenosha's Downtown
The City of Kenosha's annual Fall Into Fun Festival was a hit with local families on Saturday. The free festival in Veterans Memorial Park at Kenosha's harbor was sponsored by the city and the Lakeshore Business Improvement District. Community partners included Kenosha Fiber City, T-Mobile Fiber, Jerry Smith Farm, Visit Kenosha and the Kenosha Public Market. The Public Market gave away free pumpkins donated by Jerry Smith Farm to all children in attendance.
Kenosha City Plan Commission approves permits for eateries
The Kenosha City Plan Commission approved permits that pave the way for new local food establishments. Commissioners voted Thursday evening for a conditional use permit for a facade modification of the former Burger King at 6945 75th St. that could one day house a Taco Pros and Crisp & Green. The property is owned by Vaghani Network Kenosha LLC and Logic Design & Architecture is serving as the architect, according to city documents. Total square footage of the project is 3,829 feet.

Emergency crews responded to structure fire in Somers
Somers Fire and Rescue extinguished a barn fire in the 1000 block of 22nd Avenue Wednesday morning. Crews were sent to the area at 9:35 a.m. and cleared the scene at 1:26 p.m., according to Chief Benjamin Andersen. The barn was over two stories with the second floor area being a fully finished living space and multiple rooms built into the ground floor. Andersen said 16 departments responded either to the fire or to the fire station to cover other calls in Somers.

Crocker made her initial appearance at Intake Court where Court Commissioner William Michel imposed a $500,000 cash bond. She remained in jail on Friday afternoon.

A new Kwik Trip could move into the space that housed Fireside Restaurant & Lounge for decades. On Thursday, the Kenosha City Plan Commission will hear a request from La Crosse-based developers for a conditional use permit to raze the existing restaurant at 2801 30th Ave. and construct a new Kwik Trip convenience store, fuel station and car wash, according to city documents. Major progress being made on Downtown Kenosha development
Major progress is being made on a first phase of a major Downtown redevelopment project. A vacant bank building has been razed to allow for the construction of a five-story apartment complex with 158 units at 5525 Eighth Ave. and 5506 Seventh Ave. Construction of the new complex is expected to begin later this fall. Scott Yauck, founder and CEO of Cobalt Partners, a Milwaukee-based real estate development firm, said Cobalt is partnering with Fond du Lac general contractor C.D. Smith on the project.

A new Culver's restaurant could be coming to Kenosha's north side. The eatery could occupy one of four commercial spaces of new plaza developer's hope to construct just north of Pick 'n' Save on 18th Street. Wood Road LLC, the owner of the property at 1771 30th Ave., is petitioning for the area to be rezoned from an agricultural and landholding district to a community business district. The property is in the process of being annexed into the city from the Town of Somers.

Pablo Marrero Diaz-Marrero was charged Wednesday in Kenosha County Circuit Court with seven counts of possession of child porn, a Class D felony. He made his initial appearance Friday afternoon in Intake Court, where a court commissioner set a $25,000 cash bond. he remained in custody Friday afternoon.

Kenosha could soon be home to another Starbucks. Members of the City Plan Commission received a request from Starbucks for a conditional use permit amendment to convert the soon-to-be vacant North Shore Bank building at 6906 Green Bay Road into a coffee shop with a drive-thru. According to the criminal complaint, on Sept. 28, a Kenosha detective met with a married couple to take a complaint regarding Mills, a pastor at Journey Church.

PLEASANT PRAIRIE - Village leaders and staff celebrated the opening of the new police station Monday morning. The station is located just south of Village Hall at 10111 39th Ave. It will soon replace the station at 8600 Green Bay Road. Work on the roughly 55,000-square-foot station began in May 2023. The main level consists of offices and conference rooms.

SOMERS - Snap-on Incorporated was honored by the University of Wisconsin System and the University of Wisconsin-Parkside Friday afternoon. The Kenosha-headquartered company was recognized with the 2024 Board of Regents Business Partnership Award for years of support for Parkside. "Snap-on is an extraordinary company," said Universities of Wisconsin president Jay Rothman. Rothman said many of the graduates from state universities work at Snap-on and many students intern there.

KUSD rolls out referendum survey to district residents
The Kenosha Unified School District is conducting a survey of residents to gather input as the School Board considers a possible budget referendum next spring. The district is projecting a $19 million deficit for the 2025-26 school year, despite consolidating multiple schools last year. An operational referendum could allow the district to levy taxes above the state-imposed revenue limit to fund district operations.
Michael Bell withdraws offer to charities if bullet released
Michael Bell Sr., the father of a man killed by Kenosha police in 2004, has withdrawn his pledge to offer thousands to local charities because the city did not released the bullet that killed his son for independent analysis. Earlier this year, Bell Sr. announced he would give $200,000 to charities if the bullet that killed Michael Bell Jr. was released. Bell Sr. wants the bullet subjected to further tests that he believes will help create a more accurate portrayal of how his son's death unfolded.
Judge denies motion to dismiss charges against former Kenosha teacher
A Kenosha County Circuit Court judge has denied a motion to dismiss charges against a former Kenosha Unified middle school teacher accused of sending numerous inappropriate messages to one of his students. Christian J. Enwright, 29, taught at the Kenosha School of Technology Enhanced Curriculum-West, before the School Board unanimously voted to end his employment in the spring. Enwright, of Kenosha, was charged May 10 in Kenosha County Circuit Court with 22 misdemeanor counts of disorderly conduct.

The jury selection in the trial of Myron Bowie, 37, was scheduled for Monday morning but his defense attorneys requested adjournment for additional discovery, according to court records. The trial is for an incident July 30, 2023. Kenosha County Circuit Court Judge Gerad Dougvillo rescheduled the trial to Jan. 6, 2025.

A Chicago man accused of trying to kill his girlfriend by allegedly setting her on fire inside a Salem Lakes residence before fleeing the state is set to go on trial on Monday. Myron Bowie, 37, has pleaded not guilty in the case which begins today in Kenosha County Circuit Court. He was extradited to Wisconsin last summer after being caught in Chicago. Bowie's vehicle was located in the Chicago Heights area by Chicago Police, who then found Bowie on Aug. 4, 2023.
Hundreds turn out for annual Fall Fun Fest, falconer visit in Bristol
BRISTOL - Hundreds turned out for Pringle Nature Center's annual Fall Fun Festival on Saturday. The event, held in Bristol Woods County Park, 9800 160th Ave., included hay rides, a seed bomb launch, carnival games face painting, lawn games, live animal demonstrations, children's crafts, pumpkin painting, bird house painting and food trucks. Live music was be performed by Old Sam & the Teardrops, playing swing jazz tunes.
