Proteomic signatures of sweetened beverages are associated with higher risk of adverse liver outcomes - Nature Food
Abstract Evidence is limited on the associations between the consumption of sweetened beverages, their proteomic signatures and liver health. We used data from the UK Biobank with 173,840 participants aged 40–69 years and applied Cox proportional hazards regression to examine associations of sugar- and artificially sweetened beverages, along with their proteomic signatures (derived from elastic net regressions), with adverse liver outcomes.
Organ-specific proteomic aging clocks predict disease and longevity across diverse populations - Nature Aging
Abstract Aging and age-related diseases share convergent pathways at the proteome level. Here, using plasma proteomics and machine learning, we developed organismal and ten organ-specific aging clocks in the UK Biobank (n = 43,616) and validated their high accuracy in cohorts from China (n = 3,977) and the USA (n = 800; cross-cohort r = 0.98 and 0.93).
Integration of epidemiological and blood biomarker analysis links haem iron intake to increased type 2 diabetes risk - Nature Metabolism
Abstract Dietary haem iron intake is linked to an increased risk of type 2 diabetes (T2D), but the underlying plasma biomarkers are not well understood. We analysed data from 204,615 participants (79% females) in three large US cohorts over up to 36 years, examining the associations between iron intake and T2D risk. We also assessed plasma metabolic biomarkers and metabolomic profiles in subsets of 37,544 (82% females) and 9,024 (84% females) participants, respectively.
Plasma metabolites of a healthy lifestyle in relation to mortality and longevity: Four prospective US cohort studies
Highlights • Greater adherence to a healthy lifestyle may lead to changes in the metabolome • A healthy lifestyle metabolomic signature is reflective of lipid metabolism pathways • A higher signature score is associated with lower mortality risk and greater longevity • The signature mediates the association of a healthy lifestyle with mortality and longevity Context and significance Eating well, staying active, not smoking, and maintaining a healthy body weight are well known to protect...

People who drink this super common beverage are taking years off their life
Even though the adverse health outcomes associated with sugary beverage consumption are pretty well-established, 50% of Americans confess to drinking at least one serving on a daily basis. This median increases among younger demographics and impoverished communities. As obesity statistics continue to surge alongside national mortality rates , a new cohort report conducted by researchers at Tufts University in Massachusetts identifies the looming consequences in no uncertain terms.
Beverage Consumption and Longitudinal Changes in Lipoprotein Concentrations and Incident Dyslipidemia in US Adults: The Framingham Heart Study
Clinical Perspective What Is New? In this cohort of US adults followed for a mean of 12.5 years, regular consumption of sugar‐sweetened beverages, which includes sodas and fruit drinks, was associated with adverse changes in lipoprotein concentrations and increased incidence of dyslipidemias related to triglyceride and high‐density lipoprotein cholesterol.
Dietary isoflavone intake and all‐cause mortality in breast cancer survivors: The Breast Cancer Family Registry
Abstract BACKGROUND Soy foods possess both antiestrogenic and estrogen-like properties. It remains controversial whether women diagnosed with breast cancer should be advised to eat more or less soy foods, especially for those who receive hormone therapies as part of cancer treatment. METHODS The association of dietary intake of isoflavone, the major phytoestrogen in soy, with all-cause mortality was examined in 6235 women with breast cancer enrolled in the Breast Cancer Family Registry.
