Discovering catastrophic weather risks
Preface Climate change is one of the greatest challenges to humanity’s future and worsening of extreme weather is at the leading edge of concerns. The most extreme weather events contribute disproportionately to risk amplification because they account for such a large share of total impacts, and can trigger cascading consequences. Yet our ability to pre-empt such events is limited.
A scalable and generic framework for city-wide traffic prediction with large language model
Abstract With the advancement of ubiquitous connectivity and autonomous intelligence, future urban transportation systems are expected to become increasingly integrated across modes and contexts, necessitating a scalable and generic city-wide urban traffic prediction framework for traffic management.

Global supply chains amplify economic costs of future extreme heat risk - Nature
Abstract Evidence shows a continuing increase in the frequency and severity of global heatwaves1,2, raising concerns about the future impacts of climate change and the associated socioeconomic costs3,4. Here we develop a disaster footprint analytical framework by integrating climate, epidemiological and hybrid input–output and computable general equilibrium global trade models to estimate the midcentury socioeconomic impacts of heat stress.
Does green finance policy help to improve carbon reduction welfare performance? Evidence from China
The increasingly serious problem of climate change caused by carbon emissions pose a negative impact on social economy and human health, which has become an important issue to achieve sustainable development (Dong et al., 2021; Hussain and Lee, 2022). In the absence of climate change initiatives, the World Health Organization estimates that there will be 250,000 deaths each year caused by climate change during the period of 2030 and 2050 (World Health Organization, 2014).

Global iron and steel plant CO2 emissions and carbon-neutrality pathways - Nature
Abstract The highly energy-intensive iron and steel industry contributed about 25% (ref. 1) of global industrial CO2 emissions in 2019 and is therefore critical for climate-change mitigation. Despite discussions of decarbonization potentials at national and global levels2,3,4,5,6, plant-specific mitigation potentials and technologically driven pathways remain unclear, which cumulatively determines the progress of net-zero transition of the global iron and steel sector.
After the pandemic: the global seafood trade market forecasts in 2030 - Humanities and Social Sciences Communications
Abstract The COVID-19 lockdowns have transitioned to a new normal and triggered commodity supply disruption and trade uncertainty, yet little is known about the seafood trade resilience of developing and developed countries amid pandemic-related shocks. Here, employing a newly developed geographical transition-net model, we simulate a set of idealized lockdown scenarios in a real-world seafood network.

Supply chains create global benefits from improved vaccine accessibility - Nature Communications
Vaccine-distribution scenario sets To evaluate the economic benefits of allocating the vaccines across the globe, we propose three scenario sets which are designated in a tiered structure (see Fig. 1 and Supplementary Fig. 1). Basically, Tier Global scenario sets address the issue of the cooperative attitude of vaccine-exporting countries and importing countries, while Tier Domestic scenario sets address the issue of allocating the received vaccines within the destination countries.
One lesson from COVID-19: Achieving equitable vaccines distribution globally
Like Liked by Evelina Satkevic and 1 other The conclusion from our recent Nature Communications article (Wang et al.) is that a more equitable and balanced global distribution of vaccines would benefit the world from both a public-health perspective and an economic perspective.

Leader’s strategy to encourage employee’s innovative work behavior in multicultural workplace: do supportive colleagues matter?
Abstract Purpose In recent years, China’s growing global economic influence has attracted more foreign workers, requiring leaders to have effective communication skills to manage diverse personnel to drive innovations. Although previous research studies revealed the effects of a leader’s motivating language (ML) on employee’s innovativeness, the mechanism and the boundary conditions for stimulating the relationship between ML and innovative work behavior (IWB) are scarce.
Impacts of COVID-19 and fiscal stimuli on global emissions and the Paris Agreement
Abstract The global economy is facing a serious recession due to COVID-19, with implications for CO2 emissions. Here, using a global adaptive multiregional input–output model and scenarios of lockdown and fiscal counter measures, we show that global emissions from economic sectors will decrease by 3.9 to 5.6% in 5 years (2020 to 2024) compared with a no-pandemic baseline scenario (business as usual for economic growth and carbon intensity decline).
Economic footprint of California wildfires in 2018
Abstract Recent increases in the frequency and scale of wildfires worldwide have raised concerns about the influence of climate change and associated socioeconomic costs. In the western United States, the hazard of wildfire has been increasing for decades.
Global supply-chain effects of COVID-19 control measures
Abstract Countries have sought to stop the spread of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) by severely restricting travel and in-person commercial activities. Here, we analyse the supply-chain effects of a set of idealized lockdown scenarios, using the latest global trade modelling framework.
