Cardiometabolic outcomes with dapagliflozin after myocardial infarction by baseline ejection fraction: DAPA‐MI
Introduction After acute myocardial infarction (MI), patients are at an elevated risk of adverse cardiometabolic outcomes, including heart failure (HF), recurrent MI, and death.1-3 Although cardiovascular mortality has declined in developed countries in recent years,4 the long-term risk of cardiometabolic outcomes after acute MI remains high.5 This highlights the need for improvements in available treatments and management options.

Elevated carbohydrate antigen 125 (CA125) is associated with incident heart failure and mortality in acute coronary syndrome
Introduction Acute coronary syndrome (ACS) patients are at high risk of developing long-term heart failure (HF) and premature mortality.1 In the past decades, improved treatment strategies in myocardial infarction (MI) patients have led to a decreased incidence of recurrent MI and cardiovascular (CV) death.2 However, the rate of HF development during the first year after an ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) has only slightly improved, from 7.1% to 6.2%.2 Defining novel disease...

How much is good enough? Insights from myocardial infarction incidence during COVID-19 pandemic
The ongoing COVID-19 pandemic has radically changed the way we live and had an enormous impact on the global healthcare system []. Among many restrictions imposed on the societies, the national lockdowns have particularly disrupted the natural social networks and forced citizens to involuntary isolation. As a result, many patients have felt discouraged to visit their doctors, while emergency departments have been perceived as potentially hazardous zones that one should avoid.

Identification of vulnerable plaques and patients by intracoronary near-infrared spectroscopy and ultrasound (PROSPECT II): a prospective natural history study
Summary Background Near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) and intravascular ultrasound are promising imaging modalities to identify non-obstructive plaques likely to cause coronary-related events. We aimed to assess whether combined NIRS and intravascular ultrasound can identify high-risk plaques and patients that are at risk for future major adverse cardiac events (MACEs).

Association of Weather With Day-to-Day Incidence of Myocardial Infarction
Question Is the incidence of myocardial infarction affected by different weather conditions? Findings In this nationwide population-based study, a higher incidence of myocardial infarction in Sweden was observed at days with low air temperature, low atmospheric air pressure, high wind velocity, and shorter sunshine duration. Meaning This study adds to knowledge on the role of weather as potential trigger of myocardial infarction.
Heart attack risk could increase as it gets colder, study says
(CNN) - The weather is believed to influence your health in a number of ways. Seasonal affective disorder affects people when seasons change. Those with arthritis say that decreases in air pressure and temperature increase joint pain. Weather changes can be triggers for people that suffer from migraines. Thunderstorms can lead to asthma attacks. Heart attacks can be added to the list of health concerns as it gets colder outside, according to a study published in JAMA Cardiology on Wednesday.

Extent of Myocardium at Risk for Left Anterior Descending Artery, Right Coronary Artery, and Left Circumflex Artery Occlusion Depicted by Contrast-Enhanced Steady State Free Precession and T2-Weighted Short Tau Inversion Recovery Magnetic Resonance Imagin
Background—Contrast-enhanced steady state free precession (CE-SSFP) and T2-weighted short tau inversion recovery (T2-STIR) have been clinically validated to estimate myocardium at risk (MaR) by cardiovascular magnetic resonance while using myocardial perfusion single-photon emission computed tomography as reference standard. Myocardial perfusion single-photon emission computed tomography has been used to describe the coronary perfusion territories during myocardial ischemia.
Prognostic Determinants of Coronary Atherosclerosis in Stable Ischemic Heart Disease
Risk stratification in patients with stable ischemic heart disease is essential to guide treatment decisions. In this regard, whether coronary anatomy, physiology, or plaque morphology is the best determinant of prognosis (and driver an effective therapeutic risk reduction) remains one of the greatest ongoing debates in cardiology.
Ticagrelor Versus Clopidogrel in Patients With Acute Coronary Syndromes and Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease: An Analysis From the Platelet Inhibition and Patient Outcomes (PLATO) Trial
Background Patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) experiencing acute coronary syndromes (ACS) are at high risk for clinical events. In the Platelet Inhibition and Patient Outcomes (PLATO) trial, ticagrelor versus clopidogrel reduced the primary endpoint of death from vascular causes, myocardial infarction, or stroke after ACS, but increased the incidence of dyspnea, which may lead clinicians to withhold ticagrelor from COPD patients.
β‐Blocker Use and Mortality in COPD Patients After Myocardial Infarction: A Swedish Nationwide Observational Study
Background Patients with myocardial infarction (MI) and concomitant chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) constitute a high‐risk group with increased mortality. β‐Blocker therapy has been shown to reduce mortality, prevent arrhythmias, and delay heart failure development after an MI in broad populations. However, the effect of β‐blockers in COPD patients is less well established and they may also be less treated due to fear of adverse reactions.
