While Australia prepares to host the World Cup in 2027, the US is looking ahead to 2031, hoping a home tournament will somehow magic away decades of apathy and mismanagement. Hosting the 2031 tournament presents a monumental challenge. With close to 5,000 km separation between the 27 bidding locations, the logistical headaches might be the least of USA Rugby’s worries.

MECHANICSVILLE — As I write this, I look at two faded booklets. They represented a time when everyone in our nation pulled together for a common good. When everyone recognized that our welfare, even survival, as a nation demanded the sacrifices from all citizens. Our individual rights were secondary to the welfare of the lives at stake on the front lines in our four-year war against the Axis powers in World War II. Individual convenience was not worth collective defeat.
