Modelling of ductile fracture in stainless steel combining porous plasticity and phase-field models
For a correct representation of ductile fracture, it is crucial to consider triaxiality effects and micromechanical processes in the material. Based on Aldakheel et al. (2018), we propose a phase-field model for ductile fracture in conjunction with porous plasticity according to the Gurson–Tvergaard–Needleman model, where the driving force is modified to include a threshold value composed of the critical and failure porosity.
Physics Books Recommended by a Harvard Physics Student
The first year is the year of getting used to physics. The goal here is not yet to go deep, but to build physical intuition and to meet the basic language of mechanics. Richard Feynman No physics reading list can skip Feynman's lectures, because these three volumes are not really a textbook in the usual sense.

Follow Dr. David Morin's Ride for Diversity
I’ve always been committed to fitness, whether in school sports, state league soccer, biking (including amateur racing), or martial arts (second-degree black belt in karate). But what I’ve committed to doing now sounds a little crazy. Two years ago, Sergio Armani, a fellow Board member of the Association of Clinical Research Professionals (ACRP), wanted to do something special to raise awareness and money for scholarships to increase diversity in the clinical research workforce.

07.13.22 -- Diversity In Clinical Research Execution And Participation
By David J. Morin, Clinical Research Professionals As we work to harness the benefits of hybrid and DCTs, sites and investigators must have processes that allow for the acceptance of DCTs and successful implementation. As these policies are under development, the vital viewpoints of sites and PIs are largely overlooked. This article shares these vital viewpoints of sites and PIs.
Decentralized Clinical Trials: Key Considerations For Sites & PIs

What Recommerce can Teach Retailers About New Consumer Behaviors and Future-Proofing Sales
As retailers have struggled to navigate changes in consumer behavior and economic uncertainty brought on by the pandemic, one area has seen continued growth: recommerce. This trend involves brands reselling previously owned products at a discount — and it’s caught on quickly. The resale market is growing 11 times faster than traditional retail and is expected to reach $84 billion by 2030, far eclipsing the predicted $40 billion market for fast fashion.
Return policies become more personalized and profitable
David Morin, senior director, retail and client strategy at Narvar The best retailers in recent years have personalized the experiences consumers have with their brands via email, websites, mobile apps and, in some cases, stores. Personalization, in other words, is often used to get consumers to place a purchase. Still, retailers have been slow to use it in the post-purchase experience, leading to better customer satisfaction, increased loyalty and more word-of-mouth promotion.
The Recorder - My Turn: A failed experiment: Time for UMass to leave FBS
The UMass Amherst football team’s recent loss to the University of Rhode Island, a Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) team, should signal the end of UMass’ failed era in the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS). Charley Molnar, UMass’ first head coach in the FBS, had a 2-22 win-loss record from 2012 to 2013. His replacement, Mark Whipple, had a 16-44 record as head coach, from 2014 to 2018. Walt Bell, who was fired Nov. 7 following the loss to URI, had a record of 2-23 from 2018 to 2021.
How To Fix a Broken Friendship (+ Examples of What to Say)
“Recently, I broke a promise to my best friend. I know I messed up and want to make things right but don’t know what to say or how to start. Is it possible to get a friend back after you’ve hurt them or broken their trust?” In any close relationship, there will be times when things are said or done that hurt the other person or cause a breakdown in trust or closeness.
What Derails a Conversation: Being Preachy, Pushy, or Presumptuous
I’ve learned the hard way as a helping professional that we can try too hard to help—and our words can backfire. Communicating our point of view with the goal of influencing, persuading, or convincing someone can add to the tension when opinions differ. Most of us have awkwardly realized (the hard way) that being preachy, pushy, or presumptuous just doesn’t work, especially regarding highly charged topics such as vaccinations, racial relations, climate change, cancel culture, and much more.
The Grief of Being Ghosted
When someone we trust suddenly disappears with no contact, it leaves us shocked and dismayed. It can deeply hurt us and discourage us from trusting others or reaching out. Ghosting, according to Merriam Webster, means to “suddenly cut off all contact with someone.” Unfortunately, the disrespectful act of ghosting is on the rise, both in careers as well as relationships.
Collateral damage of COVID-19: Rising rates of domestic and social violence
As the COVID-19 pandemic enters its second year, evidence continues to grow that an unequal burden of illness and death has fallen on marginalized people. At the same time, the collateral damage of a year of shutdowns and confinement — including economic difficulties, social isolation and mental health problems — disproportionately affects racialized communities. Reports show an increase in domestic violence and possibly in child maltreatment during the pandemic.

I feel like I have no friends, and it makes me feel so depressed. I just waste time on my phone or watching TV. Every day feels like the same. How can I stop being bored?” There are many reasons why you might feel bored and lonely. But no matter the reason, there are many things you can do to start feeling better.
Outlook: Open source in 2021
Since its creation just over two years ago, the Academy Software Foundation has provided a neutral forum for open source software developers in the film industry to share resources and collaborate on technologies for image creation, VFX, animation and sound.
Tackling Loneliness: Organizations Providing a Robust Response
In the past few years, well before the COVID-19 pandemic, loneliness became recognized by healthcare providers as a public health crisis in the US and United Kingdom. Organizations sprang up in response to provide research, guidance, resources, services—and hope. The pandemic has galvanized new initiatives and drawn wider audiences to these organizations to address increased social isolation.
Anything but Real: Body Idealization and Objectification of MTV Docusoap Characters
Women and men featured in U.S. based MTV docusoaps were analyzed to explore body ideal and body exposure norms in a television genre highly popular among young people. Results from a quantitative content analysis of five popular docusoaps from 2004 to 2011 demonstrated that, although these shows were labeled as reality-based, the bodies displayed in them were highly idealized.
