Storm Surge Barriers Reduce Seaward Sediment Supply to Lagoonal Estuaries
1 Introduction Coastal cities around the world are increasingly threatened by inundation from storm events due to sea level rise, increased storm intensity, and expansion of urbanized areas. Various risk mitigation measures have been proposed to reduce flood impacts, including ecosystem-based measures and coastal defense infrastructure (Orton et al., 2023; Temmerman et al., 2013).
Wind Pumping Dominates Landward Salt Transport in a Weakly Tidal Estuary
1 Introduction An estuary is a coastal embayment where the fresh water from the adjacent drainage basins mixes with the saline water from the adjoining ocean. Estuaries provide critical habitats for diverse wildlife and are important resources for water intake and food supply (Elphick et al., 2022; Levin & Stunz, 2005).

Increased Utilization of Storm Surge Barriers: A Research Agenda on Estuary Impacts
Closed Barrier Effects and Assessment Challenges Barrier closure during a storm can have potentially positive estuary environmental impacts, such as by preventing flood-induced contaminant release/pollution, including wastewater, fuels, and contaminated sediments.

Opinion: Managing COVID-19′s still-real risks of harm
“We need more body bags.” The last year can seem like a blur – but there are those moments that stand out. Last March, we suspended the General Assembly session because a new virus was spreading. Like many legislators and staff, I had to quarantine for two weeks after exposure to an infected individual. So, along with our House leadership team, I hosted conference calls with groups of House members based on geographic region to get a picture of what was going on around the state.

Opinion: David Ralston: Impeachment of Trump is fully warranted
By David Ralston Recent Camera letters have questioned the legitimacy of an impeachment. If impeached, President Trump is unlikely to be convicted and so must be defeated at the next election. But some clarity on the reasons why impeachment is fully justified is in order.

Retrofitting the City: Interweaving Urban Nature for Transformative Adaptation – The Nature of Cities
For city planners and those interested in addressing sustainability of the city as its interrelates with nature, we are very familiar with the pervasive discourse of climate change and the idea of adaptation to, as well as mitigation of, climate change effects and causes.
David Ralston: Let Congress take a crack at ‘religious liberty’ measure
On Friday afternoon, House Speaker David Ralston joined host Bill Nigut and I for some conversation on GPB’s “Political Rewind.” Many topics were touched, and you can listen to the entire exchange here. Perhaps most important was Ralston’s contention that an end to gridlock in Washington was a reason to give the “religious liberty” issue a rest come January – and let Congress take a crack at it.
Casey Cagle: The ‘silent majority’ backs Georgia’s religious liberty bill
The leaders of both legislative chambers signaled in a joint interview Thursday they are ready for a fresh start on the debate over the “religious liberty” legislation that was vetoed by Gov. Nathan Deal this week. House Speaker David Ralston and Lt. Gov.
