Miami Delays Budget Vote, Eyes $207M in Grant Funding

At its May 27 meeting, the Town of Miami tabled approval of its tentative 2025–2026 budget at the request of Town Manager Alexis Rivera. The delay follows recent updates Rivera made to projected grant revenues, increasing the total from $150 million to $207 million as the Town pursues major infrastructure funding. Rivera noted that the revised budget includes $900,000 earmarked for repairs to the Miami Memorial Library.

Globe Runner Competes in 129th Boston Marathon

Jzsanette Cullen of Globe, Arizona, never expected her first marathon—the 2024 Mesa Marathon—to qualify her for the prestigious Boston Marathon. But on a chilly, rainy February 10, she clocked an impressive 3:13:55, surpassing the 3:25 qualifying standard for her age group (30–35). Though she had run competitively since grade school and competed at the collegiate level at UC Riverside, Cullen had never planned to run a full 26.2 miles. That changed after her older brother ran Boston in 2022.

After championship, Lady Vandals basketball seniors sign letters of intent

After an end-of-March parade and community celebration to honor Miami High School’s 2025 state champion girls’ basketball team, there was another special day as four seniors from the team signed college letters of intent in a ceremony at MHS’ Vargas Gymnasium. On March 1 the Lady Vandals earned the 2A championship, their first state title in 38 years, with a 52-22 victory over Arizona Lutheran. Miami ended the season with a 30-2 record.
