After a 35 year career in education and social care I became a freelance journalist and author.

Since changing career, following a MA in Travel Writing awarded in 2021, I have had over a100,000 words published.

I have been Writer in Residence for the Crossing the Tees library festival (2023) and am the author of Everyone Welcome: Remembering and Celebrating Teesside Libraries. I write regularly for Leeds Living website, Saltburn and Loftus Talk of the Town magazine and Corridor 8 Arts.

Echoes of the House: Stories in Light and Motion uses historic and modern cinematic techniques to bring life into the once deserted rooms. Banksia and Hotel Indigo Celebrate Their First Birthday

You can enter through the hotel lobby or from the street. Unlike many hotel restaurants, it has its own identity. This is owing to location, decor and menu. This is a place for flexible eating, a long way from predictable hotel three course meals. I joined sales manager Rebecca Hyland for what could either be a late lunch or early dinner. Banksia is one of those places where you can eat at any time.

Escaping the City heat: 24 hour stays with outdoor pools

Thankfully, I found two hotels within about an hour’s drive of Leeds, both offering a double room with breakfast for less than £200. Heatwave 1: Saltmarshe Hall Monday 26th May was a bank holiday; it was also unusually a scorcher, with Leeds temperatures rising to 33 degrees. My first escape was a Swim, Dine and Stay package at Saltmarshe Hall, a bargain at £189. Saltmarshe Hall feels completely rural but is only 10 minutes from the M62 and Howden town centre.
