Bright Spot: Taking time to smell the roses

The end is not always a call for celebration. Before graduation, everything is fleeting. It is nearly impossible to stop and smell the roses. Luckily, I took a second before meeting my friends on the balcony — the balcony that won’t be ours in a few weeks will no longer be our home. Nevertheless, as I peer through the door and see my closest friends enjoying the sun, I stop to smell the roses.

Licking County voters reject Transit levy in May election

Licking County voters rejected a proposed 0.15% sales and use tax increase to support the county transit authority’s plans for expansion. Of the 27,789 ballots cast on the issue during the primary, 11,805 – or 42.48% – were in favor of the tax, which would have cost $0.15 per every $100 spent. Another 15,984 voters – or 57.52% – opposed the tax, according to preliminary election data from the Licking County Board of Elections.

Legend Hills Orchard rebuilds storefront after devastating 2025 fire

Susan Hatch and her sister Debbie Seibel are looking forward to this spring, maybe because the hum of construction equipment is coming to an end. Months after the family faced a devastating fire at the historic Legend Hills Orchard, they’re preparing to reopen their doors in late May or early June, just in time for peach season. The farm, located just west of Utica, has existed since 1904, and has been farmed by three generations of the Hoar family.
