Black Lives Matter Protests, Social Distancing, and COVID-19
Sparked by the killing of George Floyd in police custody, the 2020 Black Lives Matter protests have brought a new wave of attention to the issue of inequality within criminal justice. However, many public health officials have warned that mass protests could lead to a reduction in social distancing behavior, spurring a resurgence of COVID-19.
Black Lives Matter Protests, Social Distancing, and COVID-19

This study is the first to explore this event's public health impacts.
E-cigarettes and adult smoking: Evidence from Minnesota
Abstract E-cigarettes provide nicotine in a vapor form, which is considered less harmful than the smoke from combustible cigarettes because it does not contain the toxins that are found in tobacco smoke. E-cigarettes may be effective in helping smokers to quit or they might simply provide smokers a method of bypassing smoking restrictions. There is very little causal evidence to date on how e-cigarette use impacts smoking cessation among adults.
California’s order may have saved 1,600 lives in one month
The primary strategy to slow the spread of the coronavirus has been social distancing, which reduces contact between individuals. While the federal government can recommend social distancing, the decision to issue formal measures ultimately resides with state and local governments. Though almost every state in the nation eventually implemented some policy to combat Covid-19, there was a lot of variation in what was done and how quickly each state acted.

E-Cig Taxes & Smoking Rates | RealClearPolicy
Henry Saffer & Daniel Dench & Michael Grossman & Dhaval Dave, RealClearPublicAffairs December 20, 2019 Bottom Line: Minnesota's 95 percent e-cigarettes tax is a natural experiment to examine the impact of e-cig taxes on smoking rates. Consistent and robust evidence demonstrates that the Minnesota e-cig tax increased adult smoking relative to what it would have been in the absence of this tax.
