Abstract Deciphering the pre-malignant cell of origin (COO) of different cancers is critical for understanding tumor development and improving diagnostic and therapeutic strategies in oncology. Prior work demonstrates that somatic mutations preferentially accumulate in closed chromatin regions of a cancer’s COO.
