The median and average age for first-time buyers obtaining mortgage loans in Quarter 1:26 (33 and 36.2 years) was down 1 year and 0.6 year respectively from Quarter 1:25 (34 and 36.8 years). There has been a modest decline since 2000 when the median and average ages for first-time buyers stood at 35 and 37.9 years respectively.

Median First-Time Homebuyer Age at 34 Years in 2025, Little Changed from 2024

Note: Going forward, quarterly updates will be released of median and average first-time homebuyer age data. The median and average ages for first-time buyers obtaining mortgage loans in calendar year 2025 (34 and 36.2 years) was little changed from year 2024 (33 and 36.4 years), pre-pandemic year 2019 (33 and 36.4), and pre-Great Financial Crisis year 2007 (33 and 37.4). There has been a modest decline since 2000 when the median and average ages for first-time buyers stood at 35 and 37.9 years.
