I'm a DC-based reporter covering the Trump administration's foreign policy and all that it entails: National security, diplomacy, trade and aid.
Prior to this, I worked for Al Jazeera for almost 7 years, based in Doha an New York, covering conflict, democracy, human rights and migration.
I've reported extensively on issues in the MENA/central Asia region, with emphasis on Egypt, Libya, Iran and Afghanistan. I also occasionally report on constitutional issues in the US.
I was sent to cover the uprising in Syria on April 29, 2011, when I was disappeared for nearly three weeks.
I covered the post-earthquake and tsunami damage in Japan in the days following the disasters. I've also reported on how the ongoing nuclear meltdown and the secretive industry charged with correcting it continue to touch the communities surrounding the Daiichi plant in Fukushima.
Until March 2009, I was an editorial writer and columnist at the Seattle Post-Intelligencer, where I wrote about politics.
I've previously worked at the Asahi Evening News in Tokyo, The Arizona Republic and the Seattle Times, covering wildfires, riots, anarchists and more.
