Every offseason there is great hope among Trail Blazer fans that the team will “take a big swing,” “Go all in,” “roll the dice,” “Go for broke.” or “Have the guts to trade half their roster and most of their future draft picks for an aging superstar.” We have been hearing that for years and the frustration increases every season among those fans because it never happens.

Very few people get to enjoy a long career writing about the NBA with the good fortune of covering two Hall of Fame coaches. I was lucky. There was the great Jack Ramsay, who led the Trail Blazers to their one and only championship. I caught Jack after the title season, but a few years before he left the team. Great coach. Great man. Brilliant. One of the best ever.
