Five thoughts on what Roddy Gayle Jr. and Kenny Noland would mean for Michigan
Kenny Noland and Roddy Gayle Jr. both had significant wins in court this week, bringing them one step closer to eligibility for 2026-27. As of today, both players are eligible to compete. However, the legal process will continue over the coming weeks and months. The NCAA will inevitably appeal the rulings, and some (not all) similar rulings have been stayed by the NCAA’s appeals. This legal process could continue into the season, and Michigan will be among the many teams juggling it.
Roddy Gayle Jr. granted eligibility pending appeal in New York ruling
Niagara County Supreme Court Justice Frank A. Sedita III has found in favor of Roddy Gayle Jr. at his hearing today, granting his motion in his suit against the NCAA. The ruling means that Gayle is eligible to play, pending further legal action and any potential NCAA appeal. Max O’Neill of the Niagara Gazette first reported the news. A fifth season from Gayle would be a significant win for the Wolverines.
Kenny Noland eligible to play for Michigan after court grants injunction
Monroe Circuit Court Judge Kara E. Krothe today in the Indiana state lawsuit against the NCAA, clearing Michigan guard Kenny Noland to play this season. He’s a 6-foot-2 point guard who averaged 17.1 points, 3.7 assists, and 3.4 rebounds per game as a senior.

Five thoughts on what Brandon McCoy Jr.’s knee injury means for Michigan
Michigan’s trip to Europe was supposed to be the first chance for Michigan’s roster to come together. The Wolverines would go to Europe, face some quality competition, and start to figure out how this season would look with a new head coach and so many new players. Instead of a pre-semester uptick in vibes, the trip took a turn for the worse on Thursday when Brandon McCoy Jr. injured his right knee.

Michigan freshman Brandon McCoy Jr. will miss the 2026-27 season with a knee injury, the school announced today. His leg rolled underneath him, and he was carried off by his teammates without putting weight on his leg. The five-star freshman was viewed as a potential one-and-done prospect and was an expected starter for the Wolverines.

Five takeaways from Michigan’s exhibition games in Lithuania
Michigan’s international trip is off to an 0-2 start, with defeats against the Lithuanian national team and its reserve team. The Wolverines lost Moustapha Thiam to an early injury in game one and saw Trey McKenney sit out game two. That’s in addition to Ricky Liburd, Jalen Reed, and Lincoln Cosby sitting out. For a roster that’s best described as four proven college players and a lot of talented but hypothetical young depth, it makes sense that Michigan has been tested without two of its stars.
Europe 2026: Michigan vs. Lithuania B Recap
Michigan dropped its second game in Lithuania on Monday, falling short against the Lithuanian reserve national team by a final score of 82-77. The Wolverines were shorthanded without Moustapha Thiam, Trey McKenney and Ricky Liburd — all three “rested nagging injuries as a precaution,” per a U-M release — and Lincoln Cosby and Jalen Reed remained out as they continued their rehab. Michigan started strong for the second straight game but found itself playing from behind in the second half.
