From One Chatbot to Five Agents: My AWS Agent Engineer Nanodegree
TL;DR: I finished the Future AWS Agent Engineer nanodegree with three graded projects, each a customer support system for a fictional online store: one chatbot, then one agent, then five agents working together. Each project was harder than the one before and gave me fewer problems, because every mistake became a check in the next build.
El Altar que Habla: A Día de los Muertos Ofrenda Built with Gemma 4
This is a submission for the Hacktoberfest Open-Source AI Challenge Week 4: Ghost in the Machine I’ve loved Día de los Muertos for 30 years. I had two days to build something for it. TL;DR: I built El Altar que Habla, an interactive bilingual ofrenda where you choose one of seven traditional offerings and learn what it means, then ask your own question in English or Spanish. Answers come from Google's open-weight Gemma 4, grounded on a curated knowledge base the server controls.
Google DevFest Central Valley: Community First, Buildathon Second.
TL;DR: My second DevFest Central Valley in Modesto was about who AI is for, from the mayor's opening to a keynote on AI as a community institution. In the buildathon I made Onceover, a first-look accessibility checker for small business websites, built in Google AI Studio with Gemini. It tells an owner what it found, where the rule comes from, and what it can't see. Modesto Mayor Sue Zwahlen stood at the front of the room on Saturday morning and said something most officials wouldn't.
An App Built for One: Why a Devpost Skill Pack Made Me Spec It Anyway
My wife lost her yellow book. So I built her an app. TL;DR: Cuenta is a small app for my wife's wholesale bakery: count what's left on each cafe's shelf, build the delivery, print and email her branded invoice, and see who owes what. I built it for Devpost's Build With AI: Basics hackathon with their skill pack, which interviews you and writes the plan from your answers. The plan caught real problems before any code existed.
AI Took Me to Three Stages. I Still Don't Like Public Speaking.
A year of building with AI put me on three stages. I liked the message more than the microphone. TL;DR: In July 2025 I started building with AI to see how far it could take me. It took me further than I planned: onto court conference stages in Albuquerque, Los Angeles, and Riverside, talking about frontline staff leading small AI pilots. This is the written version of that talk, the one thing I would change about it, and what three rooms taught me about doing something I don't enjoy.
Have You Ever Commented on the DEV Welcome Thread?
One of my favorite things about DEV.to is the Welcome Thread! Itβs such a lovely place to meet new people, welcome newcomers, and make someone feel like they belong here. But Iβm curiousβ¦ Have you ever commented on the DEV.to Welcome Thread? If yes, do you remember your very first comment? Hereβs mine! here And Hema reply My Comment Thanks:D
I Wanted a Side Hustle. I Built a Herald With a Tip Jar.
This is a submission for the Hacktoberfest Open-Source AI Challenge Week 2: Side Hustle The math draws the shield. Gemma writes the motto. TL;DR: Blazon turns any word into a coat of arms that never changes, with a formal heraldic description to match. When you ask the herald, the button that gives your shield a voice, Gemma, Google's open-weight model, writes a motto and a short piece of lore for those arms, and nothing else.
Eight Minutes to Live. Was It Cursor, or Was It the Spec?
A tip calculator, a stopwatch, and a lot of pesos. TL;DR: I built a USD/MXN tip calculator with Cursor for the Build a Mini App challenge during Hacktoberfest and MLH Global Hack Week. One prompt, one commit, no corrections, and the site was live on GitHub Pages eight minutes after I first asked for a prompt. The prompt is in this post so you can run the same test. What took longer than the build was writing the prompt. 8:25 in the morning.
On Saying No: Will the Well Dry Up?
TL;DR: I got into Stanford's Code in Place, the free intro-to-coding course I'd wanted for a long time, and I'm stepping away the day before my first section. This year I've said yes to almost every free hackathon, event, and program I could reach. Saying no to this one stung, and it got me wondering how long all this free stuff lasts. The email came on October 7. Congratulations! We were impressed with your application! This is a formal invitation to join Code in Place X as a student.
README Clew 2: Built with AdaL. Labeled by Jev. Judged by Code. Explained by Haiku.
Jev labels the line. Code makes the call. TL;DR: README Clew 2 checks whether a public GitHub README matches its code, for JavaScript and TypeScript repos. A small decision model called Jev labels what kind of claim each README line is, five fixed code checks decide whether it's true, and Claude Haiku writes the summary. I built it in five days with AdaL, SylphAI's coding agent, for AdaL's "What Would Jev Do?" hackathon. Its first real test was my own old repo, and it got it wrong.

A Builder in New Orleans: When Your Vibecoded App Comes on Vacation
First day on Bourbon Street, and my sister and I had the most important question of the trip: where are we going to eat? It should have been easy. Between the two of us, we had added sixty-eight restaurants, bars, cafés, and attractions to Le Voyage, a travel-planning app I vibecoded the better part of a year earlier. We were standing in the middle of the French Quarter, surrounded by food, carrying a small database of places we already wanted to try, and we were still hungry and indecisive.
Two Sisters Tinctures: Building an Apothecary Skincare Tracker with Gemma 4 for My Sister
This is a submission for the Hacktoberfest Weekend Challenge: Build for a Friend TL;DR: I built a skincare shelf tracker for my little sister. Gemma 4 reads a product (typed name or pasted ingredients) and fills in the card. The model gets to read the label. It does not get a vote. A plain rules file decides what goes on first, what waits until night, and what should never be layered with what. What I Built My little sister is my skincare product whisperer.
Can AI Write a Sports Recap Without Making Up Stats? Mostly.
TL;DR: Full Court Press is a zine for every WNBA game, live on AWS at fullcourtpress.lol. Code counts every stat from the play-by-play, the AI only writes the voice, and every number and name it writes is checked against the facts. The checks caught a lot, and what they missed taught me more. When the AI's writing fails, the page doesn't go blank. Code writes a plain version and says so.
Build with Gemini Sunnyvale: Antigravity Can Cook! With Caveats.
TL;DR: At Google's Build with Gemini lab in Sunnyvale, I spent three hours directing Antigravity, Google's agent-first coding tool, and it built, deployed, published, and recorded a demo video of Sprint Ledger, a hackathon tracker agent. The range of what it did on its own surprised me. The gaps it left behind followed a pattern, and one of them shows up on camera in its own demo. I spent a Friday at Google in Sunnyvale. The mothership. Or one of the motherships, anyway.
I Wrote the Code This Time. Does It Count If the Answer Was Wrong?
TL;DR: I've shipped 26+ projects by directing AI agents, and I still couldn't write a Python program that prints one through ten. Applying to Stanford's Code in Place X meant typing my own code for the first time. The logic ended up right. The AI inside it was wrong four times in a row. The all-time leading scorer for the Los Angeles Lakers is Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. My program printed that on the first run. I wrote the part that asked the question, and I was very proud of it. But it isn't Kareem.
Nova Adiutrix: My Second Agent Built My First Project's To-Do List
TL;DR: I shipped the second project in my AWS nanodegree, an AI support agent on Amazon Bedrock. Building it, I found that the "Not built, and why" section I wrote for project one had quietly become project two's feature list. The three things that broke were the same three things that broke last time, one layer deeper.
My First AI Judge Interview: What Could Possibly Go Wrong?
TL;DR: I entered HackerRank Orchestrate wanting to win, then faced an AI judge asking how Praxi Clew actually worked, and I sought help mid-interview too. I finished with 66.1 out of 100 and a much more concrete understanding of what I need to learn. Next time, explaining the implementation needs to be part of building it. I built a financial decision tool with AI assistance, submitted it to an AI hackathon, and then sat down for an interview with an AI judge.
My Agents Never Get Tired. I Do: On Satisficing
I approved a prompt on a Tuesday morning and went to make a cup of Irish breakfast tea. By the time I came back the block was done, tested, and more thorough than what I had asked for. I stood there with the mug and realized I had never decided whether that thoroughness belonged in that block. I had not really decided on the block either. Sixty-two public repositories since July 2025.
Gating Access with Bifrost: Nine Calls, Three Refusals, One Trap
I work in the California courts. Courtroom operations, county level. Part of that job is deciding who can see what in our case management system. Not in the abstract. Which permissions a job carries, who gets assigned to it, and what happens to that assignment when someone moves. A courtroom clerk, a court reporter, and an interpreter can all be working the same case and need to see different parts of it. Some of what is in that file is public record.
After the Sprint: A 72-Hour Build Retrospective - Spoiler: It Wasn't Secure
I built Charitas Clew for a 72-hour DEV Weekend Challenge. It worked. I submitted it. And then I did something slightly inconvenient: I kept poking at it. Apparently one day is enough historical distance from an event to call what follows a "retrospective," so here we are.
Future AWS Agent Engineer? I Didn't Write the Code. Does It Count?
A few weeks ago I wrote about hitting ReAct in the coursework and having a record scratch moment, because I had already met it without knowing its name. That post ended on a section called "Building Ahead of Understanding," which was me making peace with shipping things before I fully understand them. This week I shipped my first chatbot. It passed on the first attempt, on deadline day, on a project where the rubric was grading a product AWS had already discontinued.
Charitas Clew: Bureaucracy is heavy. Let's build the counterweight with Google AI.
I spent Friday night staring at a mock municipal utility shutoff notice. The text was dense. The language was punitive. The deadline was buried in a block of legal code on page two. Generosity usually shows up as time or money, and that kind of giving matters. I think it can also look like removing friction.
Is History Repeating Itself? From the PC Era to the AI Era: A Developer’s Take on the Hype and Healthy Skepticism
Note: This article is a developer-focused adaptation of my original blog post in Italian. You can read the full, in-depth personal reflection here: La storia si ripete? on Nospace. Every time we transition through a major technological shift—from the steam engine to personal computers—we witness the exact same arena. One side screams about imminent miracles, while the other predicts the end of human work.
I built it twice. Didn't place twice. Then Google and Vercel shipped it.
A you.com rep said it at a hackathon kickoff in March. The web has a second audience now. The first one is people. The second is machines. When you ask ChatGPT or Perplexity something, the retrieval crawler behind it fetches your page and reads the markup that comes back. Not the site as a browser would draw it. The markup. That second audience idea really stuck with me. Then it fired me up. So I went and built a thing about it. I knew I could improve on it, so I built the thing again, better.
Block Zero: Oh, no! Claude, Kiro and I over-engineered the throwaway.
A lesson in overcorrection, from an AI-assisted builder who is scared stiff of shipping spaghetti and slop. I am building Porch Light, an agent that watches one city's public meeting agendas for one person. I do not type the code. I direct, Kiro builds, Claude reviews, and I validate and decide. Block Zero was supposed to answer a yes-or-no question: does the stack work? Can I invoke a model? Can I run a Strands agent? Can I deploy it to Bedrock AgentCore? Do my logs land where I think they land?

My first website said "Don't commit without context." I never committed it at all.
The renewal notice came and I decided to let it go. threadkeeper.io was my first idea and my first website. I bought the domain in August 2025, about six weeks after a community college AI summer camp where I was writing files with names like ccc-ai-pdf-project and describing them in my own README as a beginner Python project. Then I shipped a domain, a blog, a CLI, and a manifesto. Before I let it lapse I went back to look at it one more time. Sentimental. Five minutes, tops.
Claude Impact Lab LA: Community Changed the Code
Eighty minutes into building with three people I had met that morning, I renamed the idea I brought with me. 21:05 Rename the product to Civiq and credit the team I wrote that commit message myself. By then the idea had four authors. Some context on the room. The Claude Impact Lab is part of Claude Community, the run of local events where people who use Claude get together in person.

Former Royal Butler Reveals Queen Elizabeth's Trick to Keep the Party Going: "She Used to Love to Gossip"
The Queen Mother was known for her love of a good drink—especially a gin and Dubonnet—and although her daughter, Queen Elizabeth, wasn’t quite as enthusiastic of a drinker, she did enjoy when dinner parties became a bit spirited. Former royal butler Julius Smith says that the late Queen enjoyed “gossip” and she had a sure-fire way of getting people to open up. Speaking to the Daily Mail, Smith said that Queen Elizabeth had a “mischevious way” to loosen lips.
Show us Your Favorite Tool Watches!
Correct, entirely subjective, tool watches can be any watch. A tool watch to an infantry soldier isn't a tool watch to a pilot, probably isn't a tool watch to a diver and so on.
Go In-House Sooner: The Money Is Worth It
Too often, my colleagues in law firms push back on going in-house because they want to stay longer to make more money, gain experience, or find a more fitting position. These can be fair reasons to delay or avoid going in-house — especially if one genuinely enjoys most aspects of their law firm job. But many don’t appreciate their law firm work; rather, they appreciate the predictability law firms provide over going in-house.
How AI Should Replace My In-House Law Job
There’s understandable concern that AI is replacing in-house legal jobs. Whether it’sincreasinglayoffs, reducing headcount, or shifting resources and priorities, the potential of AI tools has impacted everyone’s role. AI is already replacing my job without firing me (for now). Legal executives expect the work of in-house legal teams to start and end with AI tools.

I hate to admit this, but my SKX007 just isn't comfortable
Like the title says. I got this watch in December for my birthday, and I really love it. Except, that is simply isn't comfortable on my wrist. It causes a dull pain, and I'm not sure if it's from the crown guard, or simply the way this particular watch sits on my wrist. On my SKX, the uppermost 12-oclock side crown guard is sharper on the underside than the lower one. I don't know if that's by design or a QC issue in my particular watch. And I thought initially that might be the problem.

Big Crown Pro Pilot Bracelet End Links
#2 · When i got mine, it was at the time a limited edition that came on the croc strap, So I had to wait a little as a bracelet was ordered and then put on the watch. When they 1st presented the watch to me, it had your issue. They apologised and quickly sorted the problem. It hasn't been an issue since. Not sure what they did, but if you bring it to an AD, it should be an easy solution. Good luck. #3 · I have had that issue once or twice. Seems to be related to how you put the endlink on.
Where is N’Dea Davenport Today? (Brand New Heavies)
They were my favorite band when I was in HS in the early - mid 90s, and they're still one of my favorite bands of all time. N'Dea was always my favorite singer with them. Others like Siedah were okay, but they didn't hold a candle to N'Dea! I remember when this guy at my school told me he felt I resembled her. I strutted around that campus for WEEKS like I was the sh!t and baby you couldn't tell me nothing! LOL. Good times. (No, I don't look anything like her, though.

Can We Discuss How Jay Z Dated Foxy Brown When She was 16 #SurvivingHipHop #NickCannon
I find it quite interesting that Nick Cannon was the first celebrity to bring this to the table… Some reports state that they started dating when she was 14/15, but let’s stick with what is widely known. Foxy Brown, aka Inga Marchand was only 16 years old when Jay Z and her were sleeping together. Jay Z was 25.Also there were rumors that he gave her an STD. Nick Cannon had Damon Dash on his YouTube show "Cannon Class" and talked about a variety of topics, including R.
