The bacteria that causes Legionnaires’ disease has been found inside the cooling tower of Manhattan’s Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, but the building remains safe for employees and visitors, according to both the museum and the union that represents its workers. The disease is spread by breathing in fine water droplets that contain the bacteria Legionella, and is not contagious through person-to-person contact.
