Eli Brand joined the ABC News 4 team in March 2020 and couldn’t be happier to be serving the Lowcountry.

He was born in Shelby, North Carolina, and graduated in 2019 from the University of South Carolina with a Bachelor’s Degree in Broadcast Journalism

While at USC, Eli produced, reported and anchored for Carolina News & Reporter, which was recently ranked the No. 1 student newscast in the nation.

When he’s not telling stories, Eli enjoys exploring the community and cheering on the Gamecocks.

DURHAM, N.C. — North Carolina regulators are getting closer to deciding whether Duke Energy can move forward with its proposed rate hikes — increases that could raise the average customer’s bill by about $30 a month by 2028. The final decision will come from the North Carolina Utilities Commission later this year. Wednesday night, the public had its last chance to speak directly to Duke Energy and state regulators during a hearing in Durham.

The law aims to limit how children use social media and give parents more control. Parents like James Harris said they welcome the change.

AI misidentification results in wrongful arrest; man seeks justice Original

CHARLOTTE — Jalil Richardson, a Charlotte resident, spent months incarcerated in Florida and North Carolina after being misidentified by artificial intelligence facial recognition technology for a vehicle theft he did not commit. Charges against Richardson were dropped last week, following an ordeal that cost him his job, his home, and custody of two of his children. The wrongful arrest stemmed from an investigation by the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office into a stolen car purchased on April 2, 2025.
