$17M paid to Hawaii plaintiffs in 2021 Red Hill jet fuel spills

HONOLULU (KHON2) — More than 600 victims impacted by the 2021 Red Hill jet fuel spill incident have been paid out by the United States. The U.S. Justice Department said the settlement totaled around $17 million and called it “the latest example of the United States’ good faith efforts to resolve over 6,500 claims.” “The settlements represent a fair and just resolution of claims and we look forward to paying additional claims once they are approved,” said Assistant Attorney General Brett A.

Senators Brian Schatz and Mazie Hirono, alongside Representatives Jill Tokuda and Ed Case, introduced the bipartisan legislation to honor Hanabusa’s life and public service. During her time as a public servant, Hanabusa dedicated her career to Hawaii’s working families and made history as the first woman President of the Hawaii State Senate.

Driver crashes into shipping container in Kapolei: EMS

KAPOLEI, Hawaii (KHON2) — Two people have been hospitalized in serious condition following an early morning Kapolei crash. The Honolulu Fire Department said it happened just after 3 a.m. on Lauwiliwili Street, where they arrived to a 33-year-old man and a 33-year-old woman stuck inside the truck after crashing into a parked shipping container. Upon their arrival, HFD said one of the individuals was able to get out of the truck on their own.
