Some of the best summer plans are born in a blizzard. That’s what happened when Kelly Vann gathered a group of fellow bookstore owners this past winter to brainstorm an idea she’d been brewing for some time. Vann owns the romance and fantasy bookstore Lit Actually inside Olive’s Eatery in Baldwinsville.

The Landmark Theatre has no time to waste when it comes to completing renovations. Monday, the day after a dance recital wrapped up the 2025-2026 season, power tools were buzzing for the work happening this summer at the historic downtown venue. The current renovations are smaller in scope than last year’s $1.5 million restoration project, said Mike Intaglietta, the theater’s executive director.

Downtown’s Clinton Square got a whole lot more colorful on one of the dreariest days of the year. A work crew from Syracuse Parks, Recreation & Youth Programs worked through relentless raindrops Monday, installing hundreds of plastic panels for the city’s new pop-up roller skating rink that opens Tuesday. The five-day “Skate in The Square” rink opens alongside the downtown farmer’s market Tuesday with additional skating sessions through 10 p.m. Sunday.
