Community health center coming to Huntsville’s Calvary Hill Center Original

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) — One of Huntsville’s largest public housing communities is getting new access to health care. A new nonprofit community health center is on the way to the Calvary Hill Center. HAPPI Health CEO Michelda Johnson said the location is all about removing barriers. “We find that sometimes patients won’t make their appointments because they have transportation challenges or because they can’t afford to be off from work,” Johnson said.

Graduation ceremony held for Microwave Dave at the VBC Original

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) — Sunday afternoon, the community gathered to honor Huntsville legend “Microwave Dave” Gallaher with a music-filled graduation celebration. Microwave Dave passed away in February, but his legacy lives on. One of his former bandmates, Rick Godfrey, told News 19 how Microwave Dave and the Nukes got started. “We worked together, I had a stained glass and woodworking shop, that’s how I met him,” Godfrey said. This was back in 1989.

DECATUR, Ala. (WHNT) — Spring commencement is just days away for Calhoun Community College, where this semester’s graduating class includes students of all ages, even some who have not yet finished high school. Eight dual-enrollment students will graduate this spring with full college degrees before finishing high school. Among them are twins Anwyn and Levi MacIntosh — 17-year-olds already several steps ahead of most of their peers.
