DOTHAN, Ala (WDHN) — One bill sponsored by a local legislator aims to improve reading instruction in Alabama. The bill, sponsored by Senator Donnie Chasteen (R-Geneva), bans the “three-cueing” reading teaching method. The three-cueing method was once popular but is now considered ineffective. It encourages students to guess unknown words using context clues such as the first letter of a word, accompanying pictures, or what they think is happening in the sentence.
