They Might Not Be Giants
Do antisemitic online influencers pose a threat to American Jews? Are they conditioning their followers, including many young people, to be antisemitic, raising a generation to transform the hitherto positive climate for Jews in America? Based on my research and extensive survey data, I am pleased to say that while there may be some reason for concern, there is little cause for alarm.

The groups who benefit from diversity-based recruitment in the Canada Research Chairs program have the lowest research impact The case of Jason Arday shows that when a system of prestige institutions drops its standards on the basis of identity characteristics, the effects can be tragic.
No, Bridget Phillipson, Britain Is Neither Racist nor Sexist
The equalities minister is playing a dangerous game in ginning up false grievances. Racism and sexism have become ‘normalised’ in Britain, asserted equalities minister Bridget Phillipson last week. Speaking on the Guardian’s Politics Weekly podcast, to substantiate these claims, she cited the ‘cesspit’ of social media and supposedly ‘racist’ statements made by the Conservatives’ Nick Timothy and Reform UK’s Robert Jenrick.

To Fix Higher Education, Fund Heterodox Research
The Trump administration has spent the past year taking an axe to university research, much of it overdue. But academia can’t be fixed merely by shrinking it. Fully addressing ideological bias requires developing new scholars and conducting new research. The problem is extensive. From 1990 to 2020, the share of National Science Foundation grants with abstracts that invoke DEI-related terms rose more than tenfold, from under 3 percent to over 30 percent.
In Taboo. How making race sacred produced a cultural revolution definiere ich „woke“ als die „Sakralisierung historisch marginalisierter ethnischer, geschlechtlicher und sexueller Minderheiten“.
Progressive Dogma Is Fueling Academic Dishonesty
Nigel Biggar, author, most recently, of The New Dark Age, was a liberal Oxford professor who got mugged by reality. As an ordained Church of England priest and University of Oxford theology professor, he read both the left-leaning Guardian and the centre-right Times. He voted for Tony Blair’s New Labour and for the Remain side in the 2016 referendum to leave the European Union.
How bad will white rage get?
Is this the week that white identity in Britain has emerged as a significant political force? The conviction of Henry Nowak's killer and the release of police bodycam footage showing the 18-year-old student's final moments in police custody have sparked outrage from politicians and the public. The tragic loss of Nowak's life was dramatically compounded by the injustice that led to it.

The Left Is Swimming In Radical Chic Violence, Blind To Their Extremism
— DW Opinion — A new intolerant strain of the Left is on the rise and elitist institutions approve. Listen to ArticleListen to this Article Your browser does not support the audio element. Photo by Noushad Thekkayil/NurPhoto via Getty Images The third assassination attempt on the president’s life, this time by left-wing extremist Cole Allen, has once again exposed the blind spot among academics and journalists when it comes to left-wing violence. Eric Kaufmann: White guilt, Canadian style
(An anti-police protest in Vancouver in 2021, photo credit to GoToVan.) Shelby Steele and his son Eli are releasing a new documentary, White Guilt, that should be compulsory viewing for anyone interested in Canada’s cultural malaise. Steele’s thesis, which originally grew out of the post-civil rights American context, has become increasingly relevant for understanding how English Canada went off the rails culturally, beginning in the 1960s and accelerating with the Great Awokening after 2015.
Why Populism is Rising in Australia: Immigration and One Nation Surge
Based on an essay by Eric Kaufmann, presented by Zoe Booth. Australia has long been regarded as one of the most politically stable democracies in the Western world. Compared with the turbulence seen across Europe and the United States, Australian politics appeared relatively insulated from the populist upheavals that have reshaped many advanced democracies in recent years. But according to political scientist Eric Kaufmann, this period of “Australian exceptionalism” may now be coming to an end.
Australia Joins the Populist Wave
Polling in Australia shows that support for populism has risen dramatically, to a level that has more typically been experienced in many other Western countries. The rise of the populist Right party One Nation signals that Australia has joined a wider current of electoral realignment that is fundamentally about values rather than economic interests.
Eric Kaufmann: The crisis of nationalism on the Canadian right
(Brian Mulroney, Ronald Reagan, and Margaret Thatcher, all proponents of individualist conservatism in 1988.) Eric Kaufmann is an author and a professor of politics at the University of Buckingham, where he established the Centre for Heterodox Social Science. Anglo-Canadian conservatism shifted from an older British loyalism to American libertarianism after the 1960s. The Canadian right has gone down the individualist route.

The Truth Behind the Groyper Panic
It’s time to press pause on the panic about antisemitic and racist influencers taking over young conservatism. We should worry more about how a collapse in trust is fueling nihilistic conspiracy theories. This week a video emerged of a group of far right celebrities dancing to Kanye West’s song “Heil Hitler” in a Miami nightclub.

Yes, Trans is in Decline among Young Educated Americans
Has the dramatic rise of transgender identification among young people gone into reverse? That was my claim, published on Tuesday in a thread on X, at Unherd and in my new Centre for Heterodox Social Sciencereport. The first chart is key: it shows the percentage of students in three surveys identifying as a gender other than male or female. The non-binary share rose across three independent surveys of educated young people between 2020 and 2023, then declined between 2022-23 and 2025.
Why Are Fewer Young People Identifying as Trans?
A surprising shift is taking place in the gender and sexual identities of young Americans. Data from my new Centre for Heterodox Social Science report, “The Decline of Trans and Queer Identity among Young Americans”, shows that since 2023 both trans and queer identification have dropped sharply within Generation Z. The Foundation for Individual Rights and Expression (FIRE), which conducts a large annual survey of US undergraduates, polled over 60,000 students in 2025.

Download The New Atheist movement arose in the wake of the 9/11 attacks to argue that religion promotes violence, retards progress, and encourages credulity. It began with neuroscientist Sam Harris’s The End of Faith in 2004, and continued with a run of bestsellers from evolutionary biologist Richard Dawkins, journalist Christopher Hitchens, cognitive scientist Daniel Dennett, and political activist Ayaan Hirsi Ali.

Download All the recent breakthroughs in “machine learning” and “artificial intelligence”—from goofy chatbots to revolutionary medical tools—have relied on the computing power supplied by a single American company. The Santa Clara tech firm Nvidia makes microchips that can handle the sheer volume of data required for training A.I. models to imitate patterns in human speech and images. That one product has made Nvidia the most valuable company on earth.

Should the American story be rewritten to center the nation’s shameful past, with white men as the villains of the piece? Must the Western canon be upended to represent minority voices in proportion to their current numbers? For John Ellis, the answers are clear: no, no, and no.
Where Health Care Went to Die
Download Subscriber Only Subscribe In April of this year, senator Bernie Sanders once more introduced his trademark “Medicare for All” legislation, which would, if passed, ban private health insurance and bring to the United States single-payer health care, in which government administrators manage heath decisions according to their own expertise and fund it through tax revenue, becoming the “single payer” for all services.

McWhorter explores how pronouns developed and work in the English language, with wide reference to, and comparison with, many of the world’s seven thousand other languages.
The Silencing of Jewish Students
As conservative students find new freedom of expression on campus, their Jewish counterparts—facing mounting hostility over Israel—are censoring themselves in record numbers. Will the Trump administration’s war against antisemitism on Ivy League campuses push Jewish students into the Republican camp, or will the young right’s growing skepticism of Israel leave Jewish students politically isolated?
The Silencing of Jewish Students
Will the Trump administration’s war against antisemitism on Ivy League campuses push Jewish students into the Republican camp, or will the young right’s growing skepticism of Israel leave Jewish students politically isolated? In my new report, “Jewish Inhibition, Conservative Freedom: New Trends in Expressive Freedom on Elite American Campuses,” I discovered something startling in the Foundation for Individual Rights and Expression (FIRE)’s large-scale student surveys.
The Left finally faces a reckoning for anti-conservative discrimination
Harvard University is reportedly mooting the idea of establishing a conservative centre for research and teaching in its bid to placate the Trump administration, which has threatened to cut Harvard’s research funding, accreditation and ability to recruit foreign students, while taxing its $53 billion (£39.4 billion) endowment. Critics claim that this is affirmative action for conservatives, and will not produce good scholarship.
Generation Z’s Political Polarisation Isn’t Going Anywhere
In a New York Times interview back in March, centrist Democratic pollster David Shor told Ezra Klein that, with the exception of minority women, young people preferred Donald Trump to Kamala Harris. “I find this […] shocking,” Klein replied. For years, he said, Republicans had been ignoring young people and concentrating on the senior vote.

Opinion | Welcome to the Post-Progressive Political Era
For decades, the right lost almost every battle in the culture. But now the left has clearly gone too far. The decline of woke isn’t merely a “vibe shift.” It marks the end of the 60-year rise of left-liberalism in American culture. We are entering a post-progressive era. Woke refers to an ideology of equal outcomes and emotional-harm protection for minorities. It produced phenomena such as cancel culture, men in women’s spaces and the toppling of statues.

Eric Kaufmann: The Americanization of Canadian politics
Canadian politics is entering a new, more American phase, with ideology and polarization playing a stronger role than ever before. This might seem counterintuitive given that Canadian animosity towards America over Trump’s annexation and tariff threats was the defining issue of the election. But if we peer beneath the surface, a series of structural trends are apparent, in line with a broader realignment of politics across the Western world.
Donald Trump is the Left’s greatest asset
Donald Trump is damaging the political Right, especially in the Anglosphere. Canada’s Left-leaning Liberal Party defeated the Conservatives this week after trailing the Conservatives by 20 points for over a year. In Australia, Labor is unexpectedly ahead. When Trump took office on 20 January, Canada’s Conservatives under Pierre Poilievre enjoyed a comfortable 23-point lead over Justin Trudeau’s Liberals.
Why Doesn’t Harvard’s Academic Freedom Extend to Conservatives?
The Trump administration has gone to war with elite universities, even as it claims its latest missive was sent by mistake. Its approach, as in many other policy areas, has been to shoot first and ask questions later. Power seems to grow out of the barrel of a tweet, with punitive action favoured over due process and principle. This might achieve results in the short term, but cannot win a battle of ideas that by definition requires a consistent philosophical stance.
If ‘Woke’ Puritanism Is the Disease, Trump’s Amoral Populism Isn’t the Cure
Donald Trump Valid critiques of progressive moralism have devolved into an embrace of anything-goes strongman rule.
Will Donald Trump Be Good or Bad for Academic Freedom?
The academia needed to be shaken up — but how will the pieces fall? I cannot defend Donald Trump. He is an immoral, corrupt, bullying narcissist who has laid claim to the country I’m from (Canada) and has also slandered the brave Ukrainians who stood up to Putin — a dictator with blood on his hands. Trump is intent on tearing up our rules-based international order, a dispensation that has led to peace and prosperity since World War II, something I have not been shy to point out.
Will Donald Trump be good or bad for academic freedom?
The academia needed to be shaken up — but how will the pieces fall? Edward Skidelsky Trump’s return to power has divided the academic freedom movement. Is this a salutary counterblast to the wokery which has blighted higher education for at least ten years? Or the dawn of a new tyranny of the right? One thing is clear: whatever happens in the US will be decisive for the UK and the rest of the Western world.

Trump may stop Europe’s flirtation with populism dead in its tracks
Trumpism contains an important contradiction. On the one hand, it views itself as fronting a worldwide movement against globalist elites. The recent CPAC conference featured foreign populist luminaries such as Javier Milei, Nigel Farage and Jair Bolsonaro and an “international summit” of conservative speakers from around the world.
Time for Populism to Grow Up
The Trump administration is hitting its allies with tariffs, pulling out of international agreements, withdrawing U.S. support for Ukraine, pardoning January 6 rioters who attacked police, and going after the Department of Justice. At the precise moment when liberal elites are lamenting their overreach on wokeness and mass immigration, these actions risk discrediting national conservatism across the western world.

Liberal Realism and Liberal Idealism
Among classical liberals, some cleave to an idealistic understanding of human nature, while others—realists—believe that social forces help shape human nature. Samuel Gregg has penned an impressive, historically-informed defense of classical liberalism. I strongly agree that liberty in Western societies needs to be defended from contemporary threats from both left and right. Procedural liberalism, as embedded in the American constitution, is the only reasonable political-legal model for us today.
