Regional Theater Spotlight: Hale Center Theatre in Sandy, Utah
In a landscape where much of the conversation is dominated by Broadway and the challenges facing major nonprofit institutions, it’s easy to overlook the companies thriving far from New York. Our Regional Theater Spotlight series aims to shift that focus, highlighting organizations across the country that are not only surviving, but redefining what success can look like outside traditional industry centers. Few companies embody that idea more fully than Hale Centre Theatre.

CEO to CEO: Getting in the Mood for Dinner and Theater at the Candlelight in Colorado
For nearly half a century, Colorado’s Candlelight has been offering a full evening out built around theater, food, and community. It’s a model that predates today’s obsession with “experiences,” yet feels perfectly aligned with it.

Thoughts on Linn Westcott’s ideas for a million-dollar model railroad
In 1951, Linn Westcott wrote a story about his ideas for a million-dollar model railroad. It was a thought experiment that looked at everything from the layout space to how he’d control the trains. You can read about it here. A recently republished interview with Linn on Trains.com got some of us thinking about what we would do today with what Linn thought of as a practically unlimited budget to build a million-dollar model railroad.
Ground foam for model railroad layouts
What is ground foam for model railroad layouts? When I first came across this phrase, I thought it was foam that was to be used on the ground, that is, for dirt, grass, and weeds. Then I cottoned on – it’s foam that’s been ground up! So, why would people grind up foam? Well, it does a good job of simulating grass, weeds, dirt, and leaves. To help the illusion along, it comes in different grades and a variety of colors. It’s important to remember the names of the colors don’t limit your uses.

Rapido HO scale Northeastern caboose review
Rapido HO scale Northeastern caboose review: After locomotives, the next most distinctive thing on a railroad was its cabooses, and the new Rapido HO scale Northeastern caboose is one of the best models of this classic and widely used rolling office. The Reading Co. started building steel eight-wheel cabooses in 1924 following, mostly, a United States Railway Administration standard design for a wood-sheathed caboose.

God’s People at Work After Turkey’s Earthquake
Turkey lies on one of the most active fault lines in the world. On one level, we who live here are always expecting “the big one.” But no matter how prepared you feel for the idea of an earthquake, there’s nothing like the terror of feeling the ground shake and tremble. Despite knowing earthquakes are common in this country, we live most of our lives taking the ground under our feet for granted. But on February 6, everything changed in a moment.
Bleach not only in episodes. It is worth reaching for full-length productions
Last week, there was a situation that a dozen or so years ago would have made little Kajtek walk in larks for at least a few months. Bleach went to full-fledged, legal and Polish distribution thanks to Disney +, which bought the rights to it. What is important, however, apart from the latest season, which brought the iconic manga back to the screens after many years, we also got all the previous episodes. And there are definitely a lot of them.
Magic Mike: The Last Dance
I have to admit that from time to time I feel like watching some undemanding cinema, and I include Magic Mike’s two previous films in this genre. These are quite successful productions, created mainly for dance lovers, filled with spectacular shots of successive, acrobatic contortions and naked torsos. The third part is equally rich in this respect, and maybe even better, because all the shots were made with extraordinary care.

Litigation Lessons I Learned From Teaching Sixth Grade
Unlike everyone in my immediate family, never did I imagine that I would be a teacher at some point in my career. As long as I can remember, I wanted to be a lawyer. So much so that I competed in nearly 100 debate tournaments and speech contests (including in Latin). Law school seemed like the logical next step for me after undergrad. But that changed when a classmate invited me to a Teach for America recruitment session on the eve of submitting my law school applications in 2006. I was all in.
Meng Models 1/24 scale Ford GT40 1966 plastic model kit review
It was all going great until the end, sort of like Ken Miles’ Le Mans experience. Everything seemed to be fitting together well. There was one thing I noticed early on, but I thought it would work itself out — the chassis pan (Part A6) had a bit of a bend at the back, so it wasn’t quite flat. Ignoring that at the beginning resulted in a disappointing finish. But I get ahead of myself. Meng’s 1/24 scale Ford GT40 Mk.II represents the cars that won Ford the championship at Le Mans in 1966.

Tamiya Fiat 131 Abarth Rally
FineScale Modeler reviews the 1/20 scale plastic model rally car kit. Originally released in 1979, there are some typical Tamiya expectations met in this kit, like crisp molding and minimal flash. There are also some things that might make modern modelers scratch their heads, such as the unused parts for a battery holder and motor mount that are throwbacks to its original design. New to the kit are self-adhesive masks and Olio Fiat decals.
The Office Is Dead, Long Live the Office
Many are beginning to realize that while the old concept of an office space may no longer be in the cards for many industries, that doesn’t mean it’s entirely gone, merely changed. Photo by Kate Sade via Unsplash Even before the pandemic, there was a growing shift towards remote work in offices across America and the need for social distancing has catalyzed this trend at a rapid pace.
The Pandemic Will End But the Hybrid Office Is Here to Stay
Since the start of the pandemic, we have seen a lot of changes in, adjustments to, and acceleration of different technologies as we work from home. As the workforce becomes more adept at using this tech, employers are going to have a difficult time justifying a five day, in-office work week going forward. And while we are all looking forward to seeing our colleagues face to face again, hybrid offices that combine remote and in-office work will be the new norm even after the pandemic.

The importance of academic advising during and after the pandemic (opinion)
With little warning, colleges and universities had to move from classroom to online instruction this spring. No doubt, it will take quite some time to determine the impact of this type of instruction on student learning. This pandemic will, however, force institutions of higher education to examine just what is most crucial to achieve their missions. The questions abound: Are there advantages to online instruction? Are there disadvantages? Does this new approach alter the modes of future instruction?

Bill Hader Is Killing It in 'Barry'
Saturday Night Live is like high school in at least one respect: It's really easy to peak there. You're in close quarters with some of the best talents of your time, you're part of a collective voice honed over decades into a comedy machine, and it's just so fun. How could the rest of your life top that? But if SNL is high school, Bill Hader is the guy who charmed his way into the in-crowd and then panicked the whole time about getting kicked out.

What do you wear when you can wear anything? We’ve got a few ideas. In the future, when the humanoids look back on America circa 2018 from the streamlined tidiness of their little sprocket colonies on Mars, they will surely think: LOL. What a shit show! Fashion has always been a sign o' the times, and the sign currently has a blood-red “A” scrawled across it. That's right: anarchy.

How Kevin Smith Makes Big Business Out of Niche Audiences
profile Sept. 5, 2017 By Abraham Riesman@abrahamjoseph “So yeah, I mean, honestly? I’ve been fucking ecstatic,” Kevin Smith says in a rusty baritone, his messy, pot-odored SUV soaring through Southern California. “There’s a disconnect for me when people are like, ‘You need to do this, that, or the other thing,’ or ‘What happened to you?’ The one that kills me is ‘What happened to you?’ I’m like, ‘What happened to me?’” He smiles.
