Erik Heine is a freelance journalist who specializes in film and film music. He holds a PhD in Music Theory from the University of Texas at Austin, and is a Full Professor of Music at the Wanda L. Bass School of Music at Oklahoma City University, where he has taught since 2005.
He is the author of two books––James Newton Howard's Signs: A Film Score Guide (Scarecrow Press), and The Music of the How to Train Your Dragon Trilogy: A Guide to the Score of John Powell (McFarland Books).

Why did you become a journalist?

To expand my own knowledge about the field and to help tell the stories of those involved.
