The Jackson band "Freedom" was instrumental in the early days of hip-hop, creating music that has been sampled by famed musicians for decades, yet their story remains largely untold."We were really in the infant stages of hip-hop and we really were the ones, out of Mississippi, to really get it out there," said Tyrone Armstrong, the band's lead guitarist. Armstrong explained that the band initially consisted of himself, Ray Smith, and Victor Mason, the drummer who has since passed away.
