Interview
What was your first job as a journalist?
Opinion Editor for the Rice Thresher, my college newspaper. I love it — no 2 weeks are the same.
Have you ever used a typewriter?
Yes! I bought a typewriter for $20 at a thrift shop in Denver. I wrote my friends a few letters before realizing that I should just call.
How do you prefer to be pitched on stories?
To steal from Alex Blumberg: "I’m doing a story about X. And what’s interesting about it is Y." (transom.org)
What's your favorite social network?
Twitter doesn't do a great job of connecting me to my friends, but there's no better place to keep up with what's new.
When you're not at a computer, where are you most likely to be?
Either near a microphone or out of cell service.
