A logical examination of Aristotle and Galileo’s “two iron balls” problem
Abstract Galileo’s reductio ad absurdum refutation of Aristotle’s view on free fall through a thought experiment stands as a profoundly influential event in the history of scientific thought. From a purely logical perspective, formalizing the reasoning structure of Galileo’s thought experiment reveals its underlying assumptions with greater clarity.

Curcumin mediates oxidative stress to play an anti-fibrotic role, focusing on liver, renal, myocardial and pulmonary fibrosis
1 Introduction Fibrotic disease is a widespread disease that critically threatens public health, mainly including pulmonary fibrosis, liver fibrosis, renal fibrosis, myocardial fibrosis, peritoneal fibrosis, and other diseases. It has been widely reported to be characterized by high morbidity and mortality (Olson et al., 2007; Pottier et al., 2014).

Design and synthesis of thiazole-based hydroxamate histone deacetylase inhibitors with potent antitumor efficacy by inducing apoptosis, pyroptosis and cell cycle arrest | Scientific Reports
Abstract The dysfunction of HDACs is closely related to tumorigenesis and development, which has emerged as an attractive target for cancer therapy. In this study, a series of thiazole-containing hydroxamate derivatives were designed and synthesized as novel HDAC inhibitors. Among these inhibitors, compounds 15a and 15d showed excellent inhibitory activities against HDAC1 and HepG2 cancer cell line, these two compounds increased the levels of acetylated histone H3 and H4.

A novel peptide PDHK1-241aa encoded by circPDHK1 promotes ccRCC progression via interacting with PPP1CA to inhibit AKT dephosphorylation and activate the AKT-mTOR signaling pathway | Molecular Cancer | Full Text
We collected 152 paired human ccRCC and adjacent nontumor tissues (4 paired tissues for screening phase and 148 paired tissues for validation phase) from the Southwest Hospital of the Army Medical University (Chongqing, China, 2019–2022). Clinical characteristics are listed in Supplementary Table S1-2. The diagnosis of ccRCC was confirmed via histopathological examination. This study was approved by the Ethics Committee of Southwest Hospital of Army Medical University (approval number: KY2020121).
Misdiagnosis of Scabies as Eczema in China: 23 Cases
Introduction Scabies is a contagious dermatosis caused by infestation with the parasite Sarcoptes scabiei var. hominis, which was first reported by Bonomo in 1687.1 It represents a global health concern that affects individuals of all ages, races, and social strata. Transmission occurs through direct skin-to-skin contact or contact with the fomites of infected patients.
Exploring Students’ Push and Pull Motivations to Visit Rural Educational Tourism Sites in China
1. Introduction The push-pull theory is an effective motivation research theory that focuses on the needs of tourists, combines intrinsic motivation with the attributes of destinations, and realizes the link between demand and supply. For the educational tourism (ET) industry, it is very important to understand consumer needs and apply them to the supply side because this can provide guidance for destination operators [,,,].
Icaritin Promotes Myelination by Simultaneously Enhancing the Proliferation and Differentiation of Oligodendrocyte Precursor Cells
Abstract : Myelin repair, which is known as remyelination, is critical to the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases, and myelination depends on not only the differentiation of oligodendrocyte precursor cells toward oligodendrocytes but also the renewal of oligodendrocyte precursor cells under pathological conditions.
Tools for Ground-Truth-Free Passive Client Density Mapping in MAC-Randomized Outdoor WiFi Networks
Abstract : In the past few years, data privacy legislation has hampered the ability of WiFi network operators to count and map client activity for commercial and security purposes. Indeed, since client device MAC devices are now randomized at each transmission, aggregating client activity using management frames such as Probe Requests, as has been common practice in the past, becomes problematic.
Dissecting the genotypic features of a fluoroquinolone-resistant Pseudomonas aeruginosa ST316 sublineage causing ear infections in Shanghai, China
Limited information is available regarding the genomic characteristics of P. aeruginosa causing ear infections. Our aim is to characterize the genotypic features of an emerging ST316 sublineage causing aural infections in Shanghai. A total of 199 ear swab isolates were subjected to whole genome sequencing (WGS). Complete genomes for two isolates were resolved.
Facile Synthesis of Highly Defective MoSxOy Catalysts by Oxygen Etching-Reduction for Efficient m-Cresol Hydrodeoxygenation
The hydrodeoxygenation of phenolics is one of the key processes in lignin upgrading to fuel or aromatic products. MoS2-based catalysts show potential application in this reaction, and the defects are known to play an important role in phenolic C–O bond activation. However, the preparation of defective MoS2-based catalysts is usually complex. In this work, we report a facile synthesis of highly defective MoSxOy catalysts from MoS2 by the oxygen etching-reduction.

Analysing the dynamics of mental models using causal loop diagrams
1. Introduction Substantial evidence shows that managerial mental models play an important role in firm performance (Barr et al., 1992; Gary et al., 2012; Reger and Palmer, 1996; Walsh, 1995). Managerial mental models are ‘the simplified knowledge structures or cognitive representations of how the business environment works’ (Gary and Wood, 2011: 569).

Correction to “Nanoparticle Drug Delivery Can Reduce the Hepatotoxicity of Therapeutic Cargo”
Smll 2020, 16, 1906360 DOI: 10.1002/smll.201906360 Our published article contained two errors in Figure 3. In Figure 3b, the representative images of “untreated” 24 and 72 h were mistakenly chosen from wrong experimental groups, leading to overlapping images with “untreated 72 h” and 5b “non-depletion free 72 h”. Similarly, Figure 3f-the representative image of “NP 24 h” was selected from “Non-depletion 24 h NP” group.
Synergistic Bimetallic Ru‐Pt Catalysts for the Low‐temperature Aqueous Phase Reforming of Ethanol
Aqueous Phase Reforming (APR) of ethanol has been studied over a series of Ru and Pt catalysts supported on carbon and titania, with different metal loadings and particle sizes. We propose that, on both metals, ethanol is first dehydrogenated to acetaldehyde, which subsequently undergoes C‐C cleavage followed by different paths, depending on the catalyst used.
The Stimulatory Effect of Cerebral Intraventricular Injection of cNPY on Precocial Feeding Behavior in Neonatal Chicks (Gallus domesticus)
Neuropeptide Y (NPY) is one of the most potent stimulants of food intake in many animals. Most of the supporting evidence for the effects of NPY has been gathered in mammalian species using porcine NPY. To investigate the effects of NPY on precocial feeding initiation in chicks, we firstly used chicken NPY (cNPY) to study its role in food intake and spontaneous activities in 3-day-old male chicks.
