1 Introduction In the second half of 20th century, reinforced concrete (RC) structures spread worldwide. However, most of these buildings predate modern code provisions, both in terms of structural and energy requirements. In Europe, more than 75% of the land is occupied by residential buildings and more than 40% of these are multi-storey RC framed structures constructed before the 1960s of the 20th century [1].
