Seattle playwright’s musical explores the life of aviator Bessie Coleman

Around the time Amelia Earhart began to learn to fly in the 1920s, another woman was taking to the skies. Elizabeth “Bessie” Coleman is believed to be the first Black and first Native woman to become a pilot in the United States. Because of racial discrimination in the U.S., Coleman had to travel to France for training, eventually becoming a stunt pilot. She died in an accident in 1926 when she was 34 years old.

Every World Cup puts a new spin on the soccer ball

On a soccer field at the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma, Washington, John Goff rummaged through a trash bag filled with his collection of official FIFA World Cup balls. "We've got Al Rihla — that was in Qatar from 2022. And this is the current one, the Trionda," he said, pulling a green, blue and red soccer ball from the bag.

Seattle soccer bar wants to reactivate liquor license for the World Cup

We’ve all been there: An email with an important deadline gets buried in the inbox and suddenly you’re doing damage control. For a popular soccer bar in Seattle’s Fremont neighborhood, that missed email was a notification to renew its liquor license, which eventually expired. And the timing, ahead of the World Cup coming to the city, could not have been worse.
