To be consistent, you can even set up check-up reminders.
Nonparametric Regression and Short‐Term Freeway Traffic Forecasting
Abstract After reviewing the problem of short‐term traffic forecasting a non‐parametric regression method, the k‐nearest neighbor (k‐NN) approach is suggested as a candidate forecaster that might sidestep some of the problems inherent in parametric forecasting approaches. Windows 10 Makes a Strong Move Towards a Security Conscious Future
The past week has been an exciting one for cyber security announcements. On Tuesday, President Obama gave his State of the Union address, in which he briefly mentioned his proposals for a more secure future. On Wednesday, Microsoft announced a bevy of new projects, including its new operating system, Windows 10. Windows 10 is the company’s reworking of the Windows operating system.
The Internet of Things Needs a Standard. There’s a Consortium for That
Let’s talk about networks. A network can imply a number of things: it can imply a group of friends, coworkers and teams. It can be used to reference a grouping of schools, businesses and universities. And it can also imply a connection uniting each of these elements with one another. Today, we call that connection—that network—the Internet. To say the Internet has transformed how we work and play today is a monumental understatement.
A Primer for the Rest of Us
These past weeks have not been kind to those seeking privacy for conducting illicit activities. The Ashley Madison hack came to a head with 9.7 gigabytes (GB) of private data and company communications being released online for all to see. The fallout is ongoing, and many are left wondering how the data was published. It was released largely thanks to the anonymous nature of the Dark Web. Sounds ominous? It is and isn’t. Allow me to explain.
Trojan Turns Computers Into Bitcoin Mining Machines
It has long been known that Bitcoin—the crypto-currency offering users almost completely anonymous transactions online—is the favored currency for the underworld. It is so popular, in fact, that hackers are going out of their way to turn mundane objects connected to the Internet—objects like thermostats, scales and refrigerators—into Bitcoin mining machines in an effort to create more of this precious virtual currency. Though they exist entirely in the ether, bitcoins don’t appear out of thin air.
Cyberbullying: Words do Hurt When it Comes to Social Media

On the Internet, hurtful words can become more visible and more brutal than ever and seen by a lot more people. Cyberbullying can be detrimental to the self-esteem of many children targeted in such a public manner by their peers.
Google Just Made Unlocking Your Phone Easier. But is that Good or Bad?
It’s the last week in June and the sun is shining and the birds are chirping and the dogs are barking in the field. That is, of course, unless you live in San Francisco where the fog is rolling in like a cold, damp quilted blanket. In a concerted effort to dodge the seasonal gloom, the best and brightest developers are gathering at Google’s annual I/O conference.
The Wearable Future Is Hackable. Here’s What You Need To Know
In nearly every science fiction movie made, there is at least one character that is part machine and part man. They are the cyborgs. Luke Skywalker has a mechanical hand; Robocop is, well, Robocop; and Geordi LaForge of Star Trek had a wearable visor that helps him see. They’re all reliant on technology to help make their daily lives easier. But that cyborg future isn’t science fiction. It’s reality. For that, you can thank wearables, technology that tracks, analyzes and assists in daily tasks.
The Surprisingly Simple Google Maps Attack That Shut Down a Business
Not all hacking requires code-cracking programmers who can slip through complex algorithms. No, sometimes all you need to do to pull out a map—a digital map. WIRED has an excellent profile on a type of cyber attack that takes advantage of a service’s social aspects in an effort to divert, damage or destroy another business.
A Connected Nation: IoT in America in 2025
If there’s one thing that remains consistent about technology, it is that it’s always in flux. From tablets to phablets, smart cars to smart TVs, our devices are getting increasingly “smarter” and entwined with our daily routines. Let’s have a look.

The company is accused of, and admits to, tampering with the communications of its customers and web servers across the world. Gogo claims it did this in order to maintain a suitable service for all passengers.

Emma Watson Video Leak Scam: Hackers Use Celeb’s Popularity to Unleash Viruses on your Devices
Following the announcement of the 2014 Most Dangerous Celebrities™ earlier this month, our senses have been heightened to scams on the web involving Hollywood’s most famous. Case in point: a newly leaked video, purporting to depict Emma Watson, is spreading across the social web and across machines.
The Hacker’s New Best Friend Could be Your USB Port
It’s tiny and portable, yet perfect for storing large items. I’m talking about the good ol’ Universal Serial Bus (a.k.a USB) drive, the giveaway of choice at tradeshows across the world, and perfect for the easy storage and transfer of photos, documents, music and more. But you might want to think twice before plugging a free USB into your machine. The reason: USBs can now contract an undetectable—and unfixable—virus that can be spread quite easily.
XcodeGhost Pulled From App Store
This week in cybersecurity was yet another for the books, as we watched a tech giant swiftly avert a security crisis. In a nutshell: a group of hackers found a way to access hundreds of iOS apps in Apple’s App Store in China, and potentially compromise user information. A wide variety of apps were found vulnerable, some of which held users’ banking and credit card information. While end-users are affected by the incident, they surprisingly weren’t the central target in this attack. The bull’s-eye?
Need Some Advice Bidding on Jobs
Dave and Secure Hover, et al., I charged $25 per hour drive time, then I charged $175 per hour flight time, and .58 cents a mile. The one thing that I did not charge for is post processing. I am really glad you mentioned that since I had 2gb of video to upload, and over 425 pictures at 5mb each, LOL. Was a fruitful day, learned allot, it was clear, calm and cool. Took the day off from my full time job, and made a cool $500+ for this event.

Our smartphone addiction isn’t just bad for our mental health, it’s a security risk
We’ve all had the “smartphone conversation.” The one about our unhealthy obsession and inability to put phones down. This fear is legitimized by research, showing that we spend approximately one third of our waking hours on our mobile devices – just over five hours per day. However, while we all might be concerned about this phenomenon, there is one group that could not be happier: cybercriminals.

You’re probably wondering how exactly this scam works.

While this can help you build relationships with your favorite vendors, what happens if their security is compromised?
Preventing WebCobra Malware From Slithering Onto Your System
Cryptocurrency mining is the way transactions are verified and added to the public ledger, a database of all the transactions made around a particular piece of cryptocurrency. Cryptocurrency miners compile all of these transactions into blocks and try to solve complicated mathematical problems to compete with other miners for bitcoins. To do this, miners need a ton of computer resources, since successful bitcoin mining requires a large amount of hardware.
Hackable?, the Original Podcast from McAfee, is Back for Season Three
Here at McAfee, everything we do is driven by our desire to make the digital world more secure. The proliferation of internet-connected technology has made cybercrime the greatest challenge of the digital age. But we can’t fight it alone. That’s why as Chief Consumer Security Evangelist, one of my biggest concerns is raising cybersecurity awareness. The more we can educate and collaborate, the better we can fight cybercrime together.

Boasting over 330 million users, the platform is characterized by an engaged community. Which also means it contains treasure troves of consumer data. Unfortunately, there’s now a chance that information has been exposed, as Reddit announced today that its systems were hacked at some point earlier this summer.
iPhone Users: This Mobile Malware Could Allow Cybercriminals to Track Your Location
The iPhone and many of the apps designed to live on the device have the ability to track our location. Whenever they set up these apps, however, users get the option to opt in or out of location tracking services. But what happens when a malicious campaign doesn’t give users the option to opt of having their location tracked by cybercriminals?
Popular Social Media App Timehop Hit With Huge Data Breach
The Fourth of July is characterized by barbeques, fireworks, and patriotism – and now cyberattacks! Just this past Independence Day, the popular social media app Timehop was hacked – as cybercriminals set their sights on the company’s servers, rather than enjoying hot dogs and sparklers. The attack affects a whopping 21 million Timehop users and has put their personal information at risk of being compromised. The key ingredient for this attack: multi-factor authentication. Or, lack thereof.
