Columbus installs city's longest protected bike lane on North 4th Street

Columbus finished installing what is now the city's longest protected bike lane on North 4th Street from Italian Village through Hudson Street in the University District. Thick, reflective plastic white posts now run nearly the entire two and a half mile length of North 4th Street. Previously, the one-way street had no barriers between a bike lane and two lanes of traffic. Bikers and transit activists, like north Columbus resident Shawn Price, say more bike lanes should be protected from drivers.

Ohio State Chase Center's low enrollment grows as lawmakers want to mandate courses Original

Ohio State University's state-mandated Salmon P. Chase Center for Civics, Culture and Society began its early semesters since opening last year with low enrollment, but that has changed as the center has added more courses. Chase Center Director Lee Strang said in an email the center started off with 29 students across only three courses in the fall. That grew to more than 131 students in the spring, and the center now expects nearly 350 students in 10 courses this fall.

Columbus City Council wants your help with deciding how to spend less than 1% of its budget

Columbus City Council launched its new "participatory budget" pilot program, asking residents to suggest and vote on small projects using a small chunk of the city's multi-billion dollar budget. While the city's budgeting process is already made available for residents to comment on and give input annually, the city council chose to earmark $9 million to dedicate to small, neighborhood-level projects. It's a drop in the bucket compared to the city's $2.7 billion total annual budget.
