El 26 de abril se cumplen 40 años de la explosión en el reactor 4 de la central nuclear de Chernóbil (Ucrania), que causó la mayor liberación de material radiactivo al medio ambiente de la historia. Las predicciones en el momento del accidente indicaban que la zona afectada se convertiría en un lugar inhabitable, desprovisto de vida durante miles de años. Una idea que sigue en la mente de mucha gente. Pero la realidad es bien distinta.

Η 26η Απριλίου σηματοδοτεί την 40ή επέτειο από την έκρηξη στον Αντιδραστήρα 4 του πυρηνικού σταθμού του Τσερνόμπιλ στην Ουκρανία. Το ατύχημα προκάλεσε τη μεγαλύτερη απελευθέρωση ραδιενεργού υλικού στο περιβάλλον που έχει καταγραφεί ποτέ και, εκείνη την εποχή, πολλοί προέβλεπαν ότι η πληγείσα περιοχή θα καθίστατο ακατοίκητη, χωρίς ίχνος ζωής, για χιλιάδες χρόνια. Ωστόσο, η πραγματικότητα είναι αρκετά διαφορετική.

The accident caused the largest ever release of radioactive material into the environment, and at the time people predicted that the affected area would be rendered uninhabitable, devoid of life for thousands of years.
