The role of perceived powerlessness and other barriers to climate action
INTRODUCTION The impacts of anthropogenic climate change are rapidly worsening. Increased extreme weather and natural disasters, permafrost thawing, scarcity of clean water, economic hardships, and wide-scale reports of displacement of vulnerable individuals are occurring at an alarming rate (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change [IPCC], 2021). Sadly, most projections show that this crisis is escalating and will continue to worsen (IPCC, 2018, 2021).

Individual differences in exploration and persistence: Grit and beliefs about ability and reward
The tradeoff between knowing when to seek greater rewards (exploration), and knowing when to settle (exploitation), is critical to success. One dispositional factor that may modulate this tradeoff is “grit.” Gritty individuals tend to persist in the face of difficulty and consequently experience greater life success. It is possible that they may also experience a greater tendency to explore in a reward task.
