Syracuse breaks 95-year-old heat record; more sweltering weather ahead

Syracuse, N.Y. — Syracuse on Wednesday broke a heat record that had stood for 95 years. The temperature at Hancock International Airport reached 96 degrees in late afternoon, according to the National Weather Service. That broke the July 1 record of 95 degrees, set during a brutal Dust Bowl-era heat wave in 1931. More potentially record-breaking heat is on the way for Central New York. The weather service predicts Syracuse could hit the high 90s or even 100 degrees today.

Syracuse, N.Y. — Micron Technology and the company building Micron’s first chipmaking factory in the town of Clay have ramped up hiring as construction work accelerates. Bechtel Corp., one of the country’s biggest construction firms, has more than 80 jobs listed for the project in Clay. The jobs are largely in engineering, management and construction. They also include health and safety, permitting, purchasing and planning.

Micron pledges $250 to retirement accounts for every child in Central NY

Syracuse, N.Y. — Micron Technology announced today that it will deposit up to $250 million in retirement accounts for children born in U.S. communities where Micron operates. That includes a one-time $250 deposit for every child under the age of 18 who lives in Onondaga, Madison, Cortland, Cayuga and Oswego counties and who has an established account. About 158,000 children live in those five counties.
