Have you ever noticed how many people want to connect, but don’t know how to start a conversation? We all want friends and meaningful talks, yet when we meet someone new we often get stuck at two or three lines: “Hi, how are you?” “Nice weather today.” Then—awkward silence. Small talk gets a bad reputation because most people only use it poorly. But as Patrick King explains, small talk is not pointless — it’s the doorway. Debates are not always about truth. Some are fought to win, not to enlighten. Arthur Schopenhauer, the 19th-century philosopher, dissected this very idea in his controversial work, The Art of Being Right. He argued that victory in debates hinges not on morality or truth but on cunning strategies.
