What was your first job as a journalist?
Proofreading for a Long Island weekly. I only spent a short time there but it was a great experience.
Have you ever used a typewriter?
Not yet. I'd like to, if only for the novelty of it, but I think I just haven't found the right model to fall in love with yet.
What does it mean to be a journalist?
It means learning what's important, then relaying that news in a way that makes people understand why it's important.
What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?
Don't ever think you know everything there is to know about your beat or about the profession. Always be willing to learn something new.
