Former reporter for the Times Newsweekly (a.k.a. Ridgewood Times), a 103-year-old community weekly based in Queens that covers portions of Queens and Brooklyn. Throughout my career I've covered a wide variety of topics ranging from real estate to urban planning to crime to politics to the arts and everything in between.

I'm currently seeking freelance writing and reporting opportunities. Contact me at goldman dot sam at me dot com.

What was your first job as a journalist?

Proofreading for a Long Island weekly. I only spent a short time there but it was a great experience.

Have you ever used a typewriter?

Not yet. I'd like to, if only for the novelty of it, but I think I just haven't found the right model to fall in love with yet.

What does it mean to be a journalist?

It means learning what's important, then relaying that news in a way that makes people understand why it's important.
