How much water did the LDS Church really donate?
The LDS Church is donating 20,000 acre feet of water annually back to the Great Salt Lake. Twenty thousand acre-feet! Sounds like the lake will raise a huge amount, right? Whereas any increase is positive, keep in mind how much the church uses. An acre foot raises one acre by one foot. 20,000 acre feet raises 20,000 acres by one foot. Great Salt Lake has about 1600 square miles. 640 acres make a square mile, so the lake is about 1,024,000 acres. 20,000 is about .01953 , or 2% of the whole lake.
