SPRINGFIELD – In 2016, Emmanuel Christian Academy qualified five athletes in two events to the OHSAA state track and field championships. One of those teams was the 4x400-meter relay that finished fifth at the Division III meet. This year’s team has picked up that baton for a run at the state title on Friday and Saturday. “They’ve kind of looked at that team and they want to finish what they started,” ECA coach Chris Lundquist said.

Cedarville boys run away with title at Division II district meet

CLAYTON – Jonathan Allen couldn’t help but smile after crossing the finish line on Saturday. It could be because Allen just set a personal record in the 300-meter hurdles to win the Division III district title at Northmont High School. It could also be because he didn’t have to run the hurdles again until next week’s regional meet. “I hate it. It’s terrible,” Allen said of the exhausting sprint around the track while attempting to clear eight hurdles.

SPRINGFIELD – If the competitors in the boys high jump didn’t want to get psyched out prior to their event at the Tipp City Invitational on Saturday, then hopefully they didn’t show up early. “Man, that’s crazy,” one boys competitor said, shaking his head and smiling after watching Catholic Central junior Mallory Mullen win the girls high jump. Mullen won with an effort of 5 feet, 6 inches.
