Seven young people, most of them college students, slipped away from a Tacoma marina sometime after nine o'clock on the night of April 14, 1971, aboard a 22-foot Catalina sailboat. A light breeze was blowing. The water was calm. They never came back. No wreckage was ever recovered. No life jackets. No coolers, no debris, no oil slick on the water.

SEATTLE — The early-morning hours of May 29, 1999, ended in tragedy for Geoff Ramseth. The 33-year-old pharmacist was shot five times in the parking lot of Cucina Cucina in Seattle’s South Lake Union after attending a going-away party for a teammate on his coed soccer team. Ramseth had walked out of the restaurant with another teammate, a woman who was seven months pregnant.
