15 Fury Alert Days issued due to extreme heat

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – 15 Fury Alert Days are in effect due to a dangerous combination of high heat and humidity. Through this stretch, heat index values will reach as high as around 105° or higher, especially during the hottest part of the day, which will be late afternoon and early evening. There will be little overnight relief, either, with lows only in the 70s. Extreme heat can take a real toll on the body. High heat combined with high humidity limits the body’s ability to cool itself down.

You’ll feel the heat and humidity the moment you walk outside. Temperatures will be in the 90s, and the combination of heat and humidity will make it feel like over 100. 15 Fury Alert Days have been issued through Thursday. We won’t see a break from the heat until Friday. An extreme heat warning is in effect for the area through Thursday The heat keeps building through the afternoon, with a high in the lower 90s, and that’s when heat indices will be at their highest.

What Happened to Wednesday’s Severe Storms?

So what happened to all of the severe weather we were expecting on Wednesday? The atmosphere had plenty of energy in place, but the most intense part of the setup ended up focusing well to our south and southwest rather than over northern Indiana and northwest Ohio. That shifted the corridor for the most dangerous storms away from our area. Instead of enhancing the lift and instability here, the strongest energy stayed displaced to the south.
