Tulane finished 2025-26 with its best ranking in the Learfield Directors’ Cup standings in 21 years, getting contributions from five sports in a measure of athletics success bases on NCAA Championship results. The Green Wave had a particularly strong fall season, garnering 137 points for the second-highest total in that period since the cup’s creation in 1993-94 and the second best performance for any Group of Six school.

Nearly four weeks after Anthony Izzio’s departure, Uhlman announced the hiring of former Yale pitching coach Chris Wojick as his replacement. Although Izzio was very popular with his players, he failed to field a productive staff, but Wojick arrives with solid credentials after four outstanding seasons at Yale.

Entering his 40th year as a coach, Tulane’s Ron Hunter still is coming to terms with the escalating pay-for-play NIL era of college basketball. He knows it is here to stay. The issue is accepting he has less than a year to work with his players before starting over again with a mostly different roster. “You can coach as hard as you want, but you have to reset every eigh months,” he said Wednesday before conducting a summer practice with nine new players and four holdovers from 2025-26.
