Renault's new CEO has had a lot of work since taking the automaker's helm on July 31, 2025. François Provost reabsorbed Ampere into the company instead of keeping it as an independent entity, made a partnership with Ford, sped up product development, and bashed "fake PHEVs," but it seems he had no time to see how his own company already gad a solution for that last bit. Provost discussed plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) and extended-range electric vehicles (EREVs) with Autocar Business.

Circular economy principles are a beautiful thing. I have written about that more than once, urging the automotive industry to adopt them and to follow a business model that is not based on sales volumes. That's why recent news of Stellantis celebrating the dismantling of 600 cars in Brazil caught my attention. Not as an example, but as a sad irony. If you think about it, we have an automaker that is proud of unmaking cars.

It's the end of the world as we know it. This is what Donut Lab stated when it declared it had conceived the first production solid-state battery (SSB) back in January, during the CES 2026. Critics doubted that and even accused the Finnish company of trying to scam customers. Donut Lab now wants to prove them wrong. Wouldn't it be fun if it achieved that? The company sure is willing to make that seem that way.
