(WITN) - The Craven County Sheriff’s Office is getting body-worn cameras, something the department says it has been talking about and researching for years. Safety and accountability are why Sheriff Chip Hughes and his department are bringing the cameras on, and they’re expected to arrive in the next couple of months. “Because, you know, this office has never had body cams,” Hughes said.

LENOIR COUNTY, N.C. (WITN) - One hundred and forty animals were adopted out of the Lenoir County SPCA in the month of June, a record for the shelter. Shelter Manager David Wiggins said getting animals adopted is what the SPCA sets out to do every day and every month. “It means a lot getting a lot of these animals out — we have so many,” Wiggins said.

(WITN) - Many events took place on Saturday, to celebrate America’s 250th birthday, including at Tryon Palace in new bern. Tryon Palace hosts their glorious fourth celebration annually. The event featured a live reading and performance of the declaration of independence, the parade, and interactive history including a canon firing demonstration.
